The early signing period for college football is now open and prospects and transfers are inking letters of intent all over the country. Hoosier Huddle will have profiles on all the football signees as well as an update from head coach Tom Allen.

The Hoosiers got some much needed reinforcements at the safety position as JUCO transfer Tyrik McDaniel has signed his letter of intent with the Hoosiers on Wedneday. McDaniel is a three-star JUCO prospect who started his college career at Old Dominion before landing at Independence C.C.

McDaniel spent two seasons at ODU and played in all 13 games as a freshman making 10 tackles. At Independence C.C., McDaniel earned second-team All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. He only appeared in five of nine games and missed the final four games of the season due to injury. McDaniel logged 25 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks, broke up four passes and blocked one kick. He was listed as the top-rated JUCO safety by 247Sports.

With Indiana’s attrition in the secondary, the experienced McDaniel should play his way in to the rotation especially as he arrives in time for spring practice.
