Class of 2020 Early Signing Period Profile: Rashawn Williams
/Written by T.J. Inman
Name – Rashawn Williams
Position – Wide Receiver
Hometown/High School – Detroit, MI/Martin Luther King High School
247 Composite Ranking – 4-star (89.30)
A 6’1” physical wideout from Detroit, Williams is one of the most well-regarded prospects in the 2020 class. He chose Indiana over several offers, including Boston College, Kentucky, LSU, Maryland, Purdue, Michigan and Michigan State. Scouting reports and highlight film of Williams show a physical receiver that is well-built and looks ready to contribute right away. He has great hands and even blocks well. Williams does not have elite separating speed but he’s quick enough to play as an outside receiver.
“I wanted to get away,” Williams told the Detroit Free Press about his decision to leave the state and spurn MSU and UM. “My mind was already made. Wherever I go, wherever I take my talents, I’m going to be a star.”
“I wasn’t too surprised when he picked Indiana,” his high school coach said. “It wasn’t about logos and all that; it was more about who’s going to build him as a player and person.”
In terms of size and physical profile, he reminds me quite a bit of former Hoosier and Baltimore Raven Tandon Doss. He projects as a player that can have an impact on the field as a freshman and develop into a multi-year starting wide receiver.
