2024 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 54 Days (Caleb King)

Written By Ben Gillard

Welcome, Hoosier fans to the 2024 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! Over the next 100 days the Hoosier Huddle staff will feature every player on the 2024 roster in anticipation of the season opener on August 31st against the FIU Golden Panthers. Today, we look at freshman defensive lineman Caleb King.

COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: # 54 – Caleb King

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 261 pounds

Hometown: Georgetown, Indiana

High School: Eastern

Class/Position: Freshman / Defensive Lineman

A walk-on coming out of Eastern High School in Pekin, Indiana, King is an interesting athlete that IU took a flier on.

In high school, King was selected to the first-team All-Mid Southern Conference as a senior. During his senior season, King had 56 total tackles with 17 TFLs and 9 sacks, as well as one forced fumble. Over the course of his junior and sophomore seasons, King had 34 tackles with 5 TFLs and 3 sacks.

In addition to his experience on defense, King also played tight end and was the long snapper for the Musketeers. As a TE, King caught 10 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown.

As a freshman, King has the luxury of being able to sit behind and learn from veteran players like James Carpenter and Marcus Burris Jr. while gaining experience on the practice squad. As a player who has experience playing in all three phases of the game, King could become a Swiss-Army knife player who could switch positions to fill the team’s needs. Look for him to make the most of his snaps if he gets the nod from Coach Cignetti.
