One of the best offensive linemen in Indiana’s pipeline is Carter Smith, a redshirt freshman out of Olentangy Liberty High School. Smith was a 4-star prospect, ranked the 9th best player in the talent-rich state of Ohio. While his size jumps off the page, what really has talent evaluators excited about Smith is his athleticism; he also played volleyball in high school and showed excellent footwork and movement. In 2021, 247Sports recruiting analyst Allen Trieu described Smith saying, “his athleticism and approach should allow him to be an impact college player and a potential Sunday player beyond that.”
Smith appeared in two games last season, becoming one of 15 true freshmen to make their collegiate debuts in 2022. He was a co-offensive scout team player of the week against Michigan and Penn State. After enrolling early last season, he has continued to garner the coaching staff’s attention.
“Carter Smith is another one that we expect to be competing to start and going to be battling for those spots,” said Coach Allen during spring ball this year.
Smith continues to add weight and projects to play as a tackle. His One Word for 2023 is Prove.
