Hubert Caliste's Power Five Dreams Become Real with IU Commitment

Hubert Caliste dreamed of playing Power Five football as he grew up in New Orleans and worked his way to becoming a heavily recruited tight end prospect out of St. Augustine High School.

“Growing up I always wanted to play power 5 was kind of a dream for me but being able to do that with great coaches and people that care about you is huge” Caliste said in an interview with Hoosier Huddle.

Caliste’s father, Hubert Sr., played college football at San Diego State and his son is following in his footsteps, even though he may not have had a choice in doing so.

“Growing up learning from my pops and always hearing people say my father was really good was kind of like I had no choice too but it feels great!” Caliste said.

The 6’4” tight end prospect was a major target for IU due to his pass catching ability and athleticism.

“I think I will bring a lot I feel like I’m a game changer and a matchup problem at all times,” he said when asked to do a self-scout. “I feel like I have great hands and can move really well and also a willing blocker.”

He also plays basketball in the offseason. It’s a sport that has common traits to football and has helped out with the transferable skills.

Caliste was impressed with the people surrounding IU football when he took his official visit and that aspect of it played a big role in his commitment.

“The people stood out to me the most great people and great environment,” he said. “Talking to coach (Tom) Allen every other day and (tight ends) coach (Kevin) Wright coming down to see me played a big part in my commitment.”

The rising high school senior still has aspects of his game he wants to fine tune before setting foot in Bloomington. “The main part I will be working on is different blocking techniques and just really learning the game a little bit more.”

The Hoosiers are looking for their next game-changing tight end and they hope they have found it in Hubert Caliste.
