2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 47 Days (Mark Hagen)

Welcome, Hoosiers fans to the 2023 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! We countdown from 100 days to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season on September 2nd against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Every day, we look at players on the current roster and highlight the players’ roles in the upcoming season. Today we dive into the past with former Hoosier Mark Hagen.

Name: Mark Hagen

Hometown: Carmel, Indiana

Position: Linebacker

A four year starter and letterwinner at Indiana, Hagen led the Hoosiers to four straight bowl games. He led the team in tackles for three straight seasons and earned second team All Big Ten twice. During the 1991 Copper Bowl, Hagen earned most valuable defensive player. He is tied for fifth with 336 career tackles for the Hoosiers.

After his playing career, Hagen transitioned to coaching. He spent three years in College Station coaching the Aggies before coaching the Hoosiers for four seasons. He said this after leaving the Hoosiers to join the University of Texas staff. Hagen Pens Fairwell.

This season, Hagen will be lining up across from the Hoosiers as he was hired by newly hired Louisville Coach Jeff Brohm to be Cardinals new Defensive Line Coach.
