2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 48 Days (James Bomba)

Written by: Ethan Roberts

The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff marches on! For the 100 days leading up to kickoff, we at Hoosier Huddle will feature every player from the 2023 roster in anticipation of Indiana’s first game of the season against Ohio State in Bloomington. Today, we will highlight TE James Bomba.

Name: James Bomba

Hometown: Bloomington, Indiana

Position: Tight End

Year: Redshirt Sophomore

Height/Weight: 6’6”/250 pounds

Social Media: Twitter (@jmbomba5)

Bomba enrolled at Miami University of Ohio in 2020 before transferring to Bloomington in the Spring of 2021. He redshirted his freshman season and was awarded scout team player of the week against Minnesota. Bomba has said it’s a “dream come true” for him to be on scholarship for Indiana Football, after his grandfathers and father all were as well. He was surprised by Coach Allen in the summer prior to last season with a scholarship after transferring in as a walk-on.

Besides being a good story, Bomba has shown signs of being able to contribute. Last season he appeared in nine games and started in three of those appearances. He finished the season with 5 receptions for 22 yards. While Aaron Steinfeldt likely projects as TE1 right now, Bomba will battle in fall camp for meaningful snaps. Coach Allen and Bell had multiple instances last year of playing multiple tight ends, so a healthy Bomba figures to be in the mix for snaps. Fall camp figures to be a big one for Bomba, as he wasn’t part of spring practice as he was still recovering from the knee injury.

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff rolls on with Day 47 tomorrow!
