2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 46 Days (Isaiah Jones)

The 2023 edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is officially underway! We are counting down from 100 to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season. Each day, we will take a look at one (or two) players on the current Indiana football roster and highlight the player’s role in the upcoming season. Today’s profile features a redshirt freshman the Hoosiers are looking to as part of the future of the linebacking position, Isaiah Jones.

Name: Isaiah Jones

Hometown: London, OH (London High School)

Position: Linebacker

Year: Redshirt Freshman

Height/Weight: 6’2”/223 pounds

Jones came to IU as a highly touted high school linebacker out of Ohio. He was named first-team All-Ohio Division II-III by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association as a senior and named all-district and All-Central Buckeye Conference after making 99 tackles with 2.5 sacks. Jones was two-time Central Buckeye Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Last season Jones played in two games at the end of the year and preserved his redshirt. He made two tackles. Jones and fellow redshirt freshman Kaiden Turner are the next wave of talent at the linebacker position.

After limited playing time last season, Jones should get more game reps in 2023. He’s not ready yet to pass the upperclassmen but should be able to play more snaps.
