2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 45 Days (Trey Walker)

Written by: Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The 2023 edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is officially underway! We are counting down from 100 to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season. Each day, we will take a look at one (or two) players on the current Indiana football roster and highlight the player’s role in the upcoming season. Today’s profile features redshirt senior tight end Trey Walker.

Name: Trey Walker

Hometown: Winnetka, IL (New Trier High School)

Position: Tight End

Year: Redshirt Senior

Height/Weight: 6’5”/248 pounds

Walker enters what should be his final season in Bloomington after walking on to the team in 2019. In high school Walker did not play football, but played three years of varsity hockey.

During his time at IU, Walker has been named Scout Team Player of the Year for the offense in 2020 and was named an Academic All-Big Ten selection three times. He has played in seven games for the Hoosiers.

Indiana offensive coordinator Walt Bell said during fall camp that “the one guy that has really grown and really has started to improve is Trey Walker, who was a walk-on here. He's a big, long guy, that gives us some value at the point of attack, runs better than a lot of people think he does and has caught the ball really well up to this point in this camp.”

The Hoosiers are thin at tight end this year and there could be a path to more snaps for Walker, who can bring a hockey player mentality to the room.

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff rolls on with Day 44 tomorrow!
