2021 Countdown to Kickoff: 98 Days (Aaron Steinfeldt)

It has been 147 days we have lived without Hoosier football, and there are only 98 more to go. In his 5th year as head coach of IU football, Tom Allen and the Hoosiers will head to Iowa City to take on the Hawkeyes on September 4th. New to the IU football roster this year, but not a stranger to Bloomington is Aaron Steinfeldt.
Name: Aaron Steinfeldt
Position: Tight End (Freshman)
Hometown: Bloomington, Indiana (Bloomington North HS)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 235 pounds
Bloomington’s own Aaron Steinfeldt made the decision to carry his college football career to Indiana in early April last year. He made his commitment to the Hoosiers official in the early signing period last December. It was Tom Allen and the IU coaching staff’s talent development and family culture that made the decision easy for him to stay in Bloomington and become a ‘hometown hero’.
Steinfeldt earned IFCA’s Indiana Mr. Football position award for his high-performing senior season where he racked up 31 catches for 602 yards (66.9 yd per game) and five touchdowns in nine games. Steinfeldt left Bloomington North with 1,444 career yards on 94 passes (2nd in BNHS history), 12 touchdowns and a permanent mark for himself as the first Bloomington North HS student athlete in 20 years to earn all-conference honors in three sports— football, basketball, and baseball. Steinfeldt plans to continue his high standards for himself as he carries his football career to IU.
“I’m excited to be apart of this program because of the expectation to win,” Steinfeldt told Hoosier Huddle. “Some of my goals is to make some strides to the weight room so I’m ready physically for Big Ten competition,” Steinfeldt said, “I’m also wanting to get my head in the best mindset to step in and give it my all for the best of the program.”
Without question, Steinfeldt has the talent and skills to become a competitive Big Ten tight end. Like most other incoming freshman, he’s lacking experience and weight. Packing more muscle on his 6-foot-5, 235-pound body will prepare him the most this offseason.
Steinfeldt joins one of IU’s deepest position groups in a year that is without pressure with the return of senior tight end Peyton Hendershot. Under the leadership of Coach Kevin Wright, Steinfeldt will have an opportunity to see the field in his first year. I expect to see him to get touches in at least four games next season, and that he will have an impactful career at IU.
