2021 Countdown to Kickoff: 97 Days (Jake Wellmann)

The 2021 Countdown goes on! There are only 97 days left until the Hoosiers travel to Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Today we profile Jake Wellmann a Indiana Honorable Mention All-State.

Position: Long Snapper
Year: Redshirt Freshman
Height/Weight: 6’1/ 225
Wellmann will be looking to get some playing time this upcoming season after walking on the program in Fall 2020 camp. He is second on the depth chart to Sean Wracher #95, who has started the past two seasons. Out of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, Wellmann was the #19 ranked Long Snapper according to Kohl’s Kicking and Snapping Academy. During this camp, Wellmann ran a 4.95 40 time and had an average snap of .7 seconds. At Warren Central, Wellmann used his big physical frame where he played Tackle and Guard.
Having a good special teams’ unit is essential. The unit is led by Kasey Teegardin @CoachTee34 a former linebacker at Charleston University. He overseas Special Teams and the Outside Linebackers. He was recently promoted by Tom Allen at the end of the year. In his first game Wellmann was spotted celebrating with the team after Michael Penix’s infamous game-winning touchdown.
