@mcm666  I assume so.  There is/was one up on 86th street in Indy a long time ago.  I worked up there for a short time back in the aughts and we'd get them for lunch sometimes.

A breakfast burrito smothered in stew from the Frontier in Albuquerque is not only my favorite breakfast but one of my favorite meals at any restaurant.

Anyone had Shakshuka?  It’s one on my favorite middle eastern dishes.  It’s commonly had for breakfast but it sometimes served die dinner.

@eppy99 Yes, it's great, though I've only had it for lunch/dinner.  I see why it works for breakfast -- is this the ultimate anytime of day dish?

@tammany 100% it is.  Short story.  This past winter I took the family to Italy.  We decided to have breakfast in the Jewish quarter and found a Kosher restaurant.  We sat outside as the inside was full.  It was a little chilly maybe 45 degrees.  I ordered Shakshuka.  When I received my hot little cast iron portion I cut into the egg.  Apparently the temperature of the egg along with the sauce and maybe the temp outside caused the egg to explode right in front of my face.  It burned parts of my face (not badly), there was egg all over my clothes and hair.  I’ve seen eggs explode in the oven but this was a first.  Perhaps one of you science guys have a better explanation.  Clearly there was pressure erupting.

@eppy99 Yeesh -- I didn't know such an explosion was possible.  I guess the old saying has some legitimate roots.

Honestly I'm surprised more restaurants don't have this (or some interpretation of it) on the menu as an appetizer and/or main.  Everyone lives dipping bread into tomato sauce and poached eggs.

@tammany What city are you in?  There’s a great place in Carmel that serves this dish.

@eppy99 I’m in the Carmel area every once in awhile.  What’s the place?

@tammany It's called Eggshell Bistro.  It's very close to the Palladium.

I do variations of that at home all the time.  When the kids were little, they loved it.   I'll do an italian version with spaghetti sauce and leftover rice.

My daughter was here this weekend.  We made one for dinner Friday night without any sauce.  Just italian sausage, peppers, onions and garlic.

Then Saturday, we visited my folks and she made chocolate chip banana bread with her grandma, which became French Toast on Sunday morning.

@receipt-keeper huh, never thought to use banana bread for French toast.  Banana bread is a favorite of mine either with or without chocolate chips.

When I was a kid I used to hide the bananas so they’d go soft and ask my mom to make a loaf.

You need to try it.  It's life changing with a dusting of cinnamon/sugar and some good maple syrup.  Zucchini bread is good too, but it's not the same as banana bread.

Any bananas that go too far before we can eat them are allowed to go the rest of the way and then they get thrown in the freezer.  Thaw them out when you have enough for a couple of loaves.

@eppy99 Thanks for the recipe recommendation! I've seen this on the menu in some of my travels, but never had the stones to try it. After reading this and researching a bit, think I'll give it a whirl. Funny, I'm in the same area as you and have never tried Eggshell because I heard one of the owners is an ass. May have to breakdown and give it a whirl too!

@mtbrider I'm surprised to hear that about the owner.  I think it's only owned by this tall older guy who is the chef.  He's a pretty chill guy, loves his coffee.  It may be that I don't think he takes special requests.  Some chefs are like that.  Eggshell is worth a visit.  Just don't do it on a day where you're in a rush. It's a pretty leisurely breakfast.

Warning: the recipe can be spicy at times
