If the sane and reasonable arm of the GOP, if that exist anymore, would put together a bill that was well thought out, has some compromise for the left(voter ID are free and election Day being made a national holiday), easy and clear to implement, and doesn't infringe on anyone's rights then people would listen. But "fuck.you guys. It's my way or the highway and you hate America" isn't going to cut it.
There are 20+ states that require at least a photo ID to vote. Are there any studies that show they're being disenfranchised? And no subjective b#llshit data about people's feelings.

It didn't have to be haphazard; it could have been done a long time ago based on common sense. But Democrats are intentionally dragging their feet and making claims because it is more likely to negatively impact their voting base. We need an ID to pick up packages, get a Library Card, and obtain pharmaceuticals, but voting is where disenfranchisement starts, apparently.
Elections in the US are secure. In 2020, Trump’s director of CISA said the just-concluded election was the most secure in American history (and he was promptly fired by losing candidate Trump for saying so). There was no ruckus about election security following the 2024 election - - - because Trump won.
Could our already secure elections be made even more secure? Sure, but at a significant cost. Proposed changes would make it more difficult to vote, and even lead to disenfranchisement, for millions of American citizens. The proposals are flawed solutions in search of a problem.
Widespread voter fraud is a myth. Outcome-determinative voter fraud in statewide and federal elections is non-existent. Noncitizen voting is exceedingly rare. The Heritage Foundation’s database of voter fraud reflects that cases of noncitizen voting are exceptionally rare to the point of being a statistical nullity. But the voter fraud boogeyman is a compelling (for some) political talking point in a year when a party led by a failing president who is also the biggest con man in American history is poised to take an ass-whooping in November.

I totally agree that Dems have used this as a political volleyball. But the GOP is just as guilty.
