and it honestly doesn't even matter if people CAN afford it.
I pointed this out in another thread to someone who wouldn't listen. May very well have been snarl, not sure. It doesn't matter if the voters are right or wrong about their economic situation. They are still the ones who vote. You can scream and yell at them until you are red in the fact that all the "economic indicators" say they are better off, and what does that get you?
It gets you the same thing it got the Dems after Biden's team spent all year doing the same thing.
@goat I know. I'm was just making the point that Democrats should annihilate the GOP in midterms and easily sweep. I personally don't think they will because the economy has improved and immigration is night and day better.
@snarlcakes STAND DOWN COLONEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'LL REVOKE LIBERTY FOR THE NEXT THREE PORTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU CAN MOP THE DECK AND THINK ABOUT THE TONE YOU TOOK WITH ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's like deja vu.
Also, I know you and I disagree on a lot of things, but I don't understand why we are the only two people here who truly understand just how fundamentally crucial this issue is to political reality. Everyone else either has their head in the sand or honestly thinks some other issue is why people hate the party in power. It's ridiculous on its face.

Uh, I agree with both of you on this. 😉 I think it's obviously true and history has proven it over and over.
because the economy has improved
Has it? Maybe. Sure. Probably. Does it matter? No. I'm objectively better off right now than I've ever been in my entire life. I have a retirement account I'm pumping up like crazy, and a checking account overflowing with disposable income that I don't actually use because I don't know what to do with it. And yet, still, today I went to the grocery store and absolutely noticed the fuck out of the fact that I paid almost four fucking dollars for a tiny bag of shredded cheese that used to cost $1.79. It doesn't matter that I could afford it. The sticker shock is still real.
And lots of people don't have that cash cushion I have. I have zero kids. Zero summer camps to pay for. Zero soccer cleats to buy. Some of us have legit alimony and child support that we have to pay for because we didn't want to ruin it with a hottie by putting some rubber between us. Those people are really hurting. Crab legs? Out of the question this week. Better save up for next.
Again, your indicators mean shit. "The fundamentals of the economy are strong." LOL. How has that worked out in the past? Voters vote. Indicators don't. End of story.

Close, but you also still think that Trump's personal incapacity for serious public office matters. For voters, it does not. And recent history has sadly proven that.

So what’s the answer? Indulge their false beliefs? Tell them how you’re going to subsidize the things they think are too expensive? Maybe cap the price?
At some point if people have unrealistic expectations of what their financial situation ought to be, or believe they’re entitled to financial security without the requisite effort, someone has to give them some tough talk.
The economic situation is not great, it’s not terrible, it’s decidedly average. What do you do with a population that thinks it’s terrible anyway?
Indulge them I guess is what you’re saying…
and it honestly doesn't even matter if people CAN afford it.

I'm not telling you what to do about it at all. I'm telling you what's going to happen, and what's going to happen is your team is going to get smoked.
@goat shit dude and i'm even feeling better about my miserable decisions. all that child support and private school and office bills and blah blah i'm now starting to have friends with THREE kids in college at once!!!! think of that bill! on TOP of fucking $9 pinwheels. those $9 pinwheels look that wife in the face very fucking day that daddy's bitching about the cost of tuition times three

I agree with that too. Minor correction. I think that personal capacity SHOULD matter. Not that it always matters.
On2016 debate against Clinton, Trump mentioned violent crime was way up. We had a live thread on the debate, I looked up the numbers and no numbers said violent crime was up and posted it. I think it was Crazed who said the numbers do not matter, if people felt unsafe it doesn't matter what the numbers show. This all sounds like the same thing.
Here are some food items up over the 2% target which probably accounts for more than we think:
- Sugar and Sweets: Up 6.1% compared to last year, driven heavily by spikes in the cost of chewing gum and chocolate candy.
- Retail Coffee: Up 6.1% higher than a year ago, reflecting ongoing global supply issues.
- Beef and Veal: Up 5.9% over the past 12 months, despite experiencing a minor price drop in recent weeks.
- Nonalcoholic Beverages: Up 3.7% overall year-over-year.
- Fruits and Vegetables: Up 3.2% as a category compared to last year, with fresh vegetables specifically showing a 2.6% annual increase.
- Cereals and Bakery Products: Up 2.6% compared to last year. [1, 2, 3, 4]

I'm sympathetic to that. I wish it mattered. I've just accepted that it does not.

I would have been great in the service. Day 2 I would have told the drill sergeant Major Payne could kick your a#%. Cig has won 19 straight and is 30-2 and Bowl wants to play the School of the Blind, School of the Deaf, and the College of Sissies. What a wimp.
