How far removed we are from Lee Iaccoca taking a loan and paying it back early.
From that to banks getting bailed and not paying it back.
To direct stakes in American companies that can’t compete.
Preach brother.
I see a loan as different from taking an equity position. I think the worst example was the GM reorganization. That truly was government wading in with its own agenda.
@carramrod of course I was opposed to it. I don't flop around like a fish on the dock regarding my positions, like most. Taking a direct investment stake in one floundering company by the federal govt is abhorrent. And exponentially worse than anything the crazy Dems ever considered trying.
Same for applying a $3-500b/yr consumption tax on the American public by executive fiat.
Meanwhile supposed free market Republicans navel gaze. Pitiful.
Mind you I'm not advocating for any of the Trump policies but the alternative was significantly more government control of these companies than just an equity stake. They wanted to commandeer entire industries.

@shooter he wasn’t a comedian. He was spewing vile shit bc he’s obsessed. He’s a comedian as much as you are. That license comes with restrictions. Canceling him is the right thing to do. If I was a little local holding that license I’d be relieved.
@mcm666 that's fair. You're taking the worst of it. Unfortunately, I don't see them going away anytime soon. I think the next Democrat or Republican President will keep them in place. They might tweak them some, but that's about it. It's become a national security issue and the government does whatever it wants if it's deemed a national security issue.
No shit. You think the govt is ever going to give up that revenue stream once the faucet is turned on? Of course not. And we'll all suffer becoming a poorer nation in the long run. It will be Trump's legacy impact. Out only hope is the the SCOTUS shows some actual backbone
Not sure on the poorer part overall because they will print 300-400 billion less each year. They're just rearranging who pays the tax.
Sure, so give Intel a loan. HOw many board seats does the federal government get? When do they join the board of a communications company b/c it's "in the nation's security interest" to do so.How far removed we are from Lee Iaccoca taking a loan and paying it back early.

If the free market decided he should be cancelled, that's one thing. But if the FCC pressured ABC to cancel him, do you support that?

Govt debt does not increase the money supply. The Fed balance sheet has been shrinking for the last 3+ years as part of ongoing QT. The balance sheet is back to roughly April 2020 levels. Serval trillion lower than it's peak in 2022. So what printing are you referring to?
@gros-louis it’s actually the locals with the licenses and the fcc is doing their job based on the standards that attend those licenses. I see nothing wrong with what the fcc did re his conduct and community standards. This was a grisly murder and he equated maga to this guy. Pretty evil

From the FCC, updated in 2022 -
In exchange for obtaining a valuable license to operate a broadcast station using the public airwaves, each radio and television licensee is required by law to operate its station in the “public interest, convenience and necessity.” Generally, this means it must air programming that is responsive to the needs and problems of its local community of license. To do this, each non-exempt station licensee must identify the needs and problems and then specifically treat these local matters in the news, public affairs, political and other programming that it airs. As discussed in more detail further in this Manual, each commercial station – and most noncommercial stations – must provide the public with information about how it has met its obligation in a quarterly report.
This should probably to go court (if it hasn't already) to define specifically what "public interest, convenience and necessity" mean. But this idea that the government censored Kimmel isn't really valid. There were definitely broadcasting companies in red states that didn't like it and were already (likely) pressuring ABC over this. ABC probably told them to pound sand and pressured them right back.
It's like finding a previously unused clause in a contract getting exercised and the shocked pikachu faces come out (b/c when we're friendly we don't exercise it, but when shit gets heated we do).
Look, I don't like this and I think ABC should sue. But they won't b/c they are whores like the rest of them. PIgs at a trough and teh feds own the trough.
nt
@larsiu spot on. And it’s not defined. And the fcc is sued all the time

Doesn't matter what you call him. Comedian, newscaster, Nazi, whatever. The First Amendment applies to everyone. Everyone is “allowed” to criticize the president, or praise him, or any combination. We still live in a free country with a Constitution, even when neither you nor the president understands what that implies.
Trump said,
“I have read someplace that the networks were 97% against me, again, 97% negative, and yet I won and easily, all seven swing states. ... They give me only bad publicity, press. I mean, they’re getting a license. I would think maybe their license should be taken away.”
Then added
"When you have a network and you have evening shows, and all they do is hit Trump. That’s all they do. If you go back, I guess they haven’t had a conservative on in years or something somebody said. But when you go back, take a look, all they do is hit Trump. They’re licensed. They’re not allowed to do that."
He's dumb as dogshit.

The FCC made a clear and specific public threat, then 3 hours later the threatened company toed the line.
3 hours.
But you want us to believe that it was just a coincidence.
I don't know whether it was or not, and you don't either, but it's pretty damn fishy. And such threats should not happen. The person making the threats tweeted 5 years ago about why such threats should not happen. But now he has to be loyal to the czar.

@snarlcakes it’s added probably 25 percent generally. I was wrong thinking logistics and customs would be the problem. They’ve been seamless. You just pay the shipping co. Super simple. But it has raised our costs considerably on shit we ship here AND raised them on raw stuff we send there to manufacture. It’s been much worse than I anticipated from a financial standpoint
When did this really kick into high gear for you? Just in last month, two or so? That's the sense that I'm getting, anecdotally.
