Builders Network

Has anyone joined the Builders Network? I saw, among others, Cuban was involved. It is an attempt to bring civility back

https://buildersmovement.org/

From their mission:

If enough people adopt a Builders Mindset, we can replace our toxic “us vs. them” culture with one of curiosity, compassion, courage, and creative innovation.

It won’t be easy. The incentives in our media, social algorithms, and politics reward and amplify the conflict entrepreneurs working overtime to divide, diminish, and destroy.

Our approach is to reach and teach people at scale with powerful content, equip them with new skills and innovative tools, and mobilize the growing Builders movement with grassroots civic programs to hold political leaders accountable for being Builders.

It would be cool if this is a secret offshoot of the Free Masons, with renewed plans for world domination.

Cuban calls Trump the most unethical, dishonest, and the most lacking in character of anybody he has ever done business with. I don’t think Cuban is one to bring back civility.

@co-hoosier  actually that makes him the perfect person to do it. The idea isn't only to get the Mother Teresa types to stay that way but to pull others back from the brink.

That would be "The Dream Team" and it's moving along nicely. We just finalized appetizers for the 26 spring retreat.

I don’t think being civil is very complicated or difficult.  The Builders Network has an admirable purpose, but it makes the whole idea of civility too complicated.

The biggest problem is too many people don’t want to be civil.  They think being uncivil, name calling, or exclusionary advances their argument.  And it’s fun.

Simple politeness is sufficient.

civility isn’t the problem.  Dems and pubs are so far apart on their vision for the party trust reconciliation is impossible.  Like walking into a mediation with a one mil min and the other side won’t move off zero.  Decorum won’t matter

Decorum won’t matter

So calling Trump a "nazi" isn't a problem? That is the implication of "Decorum won’t matter."

Words and decorum do matter.

@co-hoosier  where we disagree is on the famed troll. Trolling destroys those virtues of politeness and civility. That is why people troll, the intent is to destroy civility.

@arthur-dent you’re right. It does matter.  I’m just pessimistic on everything after this last election.  I thought progressives losing everything would be the end of them.  Now it is the Dem party. So while I do want decorum I think it more important that we all sort of want the same things.  That bodes well for a country. And we really don’t.

There are two things here.  Being polite and respectful is one, controlling your own reactions to incivility is another.  We can never reach the state of pure civil discourse so long as people believe there are such things as internet trolls.  We can’t fix this by believing the other guy needs to change.  We fix it by managing emotions found between our ears.

I think decorum always matters.  Irreconcilable differences is often the product of a lack of decorum.
