@old-crescent

I don't see the cowboy boots during the week. I think that's part of the game day uniform. But the butt cheeks... oh yeah.

Another thing that's weird is that the foot traffic on 17th around Jordan is like 80% women. No idea why that might be.

I see you're still referring to the street as that racist, Jordan.

Game day that's all you see - cowboy boots.  Not saying I don't like it, but it seems a little odd.  Like, are they planning on riding a, er, bucking bronc any time soon?

It's a Southern thing.

It's what happens when you get good at football and your Saturdays become more of a scene.

I figured the daughter/sorority thing would be kinda N/A for me given the college athletic path we're on (I guess)...and but seeing the Depauw talk made it applicable.

Had our first "recruiting invite" yesterday up in Greencastle (D3 can recruit while still Sophmores), and learned that every one of the non-Freshman players were not only members of sororities, but lived in the houses.  Caught me completely off guard.  Seemed VERY old school, but cool as well.  The girls have their teammates that they hang with, but also the girls from their house that come out to the games for support.

Daughter actually toured the Freshman dorms, AND a sorority house as part of the recruitment.

I thought the days of Varsity athletes being in houses was long gone, but I guess at some D3's...its still alive and well...which is kinda cool, IMO.

And the players all claimed that living in the Sororities (at Depauw, at least) was more affordable than an off campus house, or apartment...but they may just be an outlier.

Daughter's friend scored her first goal for West Georgia (apparently DII, who knew).

Daughter knew she wanted to go to a "big" school and it was highly unlikely she'd get recruited to a D1. She did recruited by a host of D3 and NAIA schools but most very small and, cough, geographically non ideal.

Nice.

How does she like it down there?  The Zionsville girl, right?  Indy Premier?

DII, but looks like they play a hell of a schedule.  Woof.

Did your daughter decide to hang it up after Premier, or Carmel, BTW?

@larsiu I’ve never understood D2.  D1. I get. D3 no schollies but typically better quality universities.  NAIA the Wild West.  I told you I played on a top ten team and played uva during their dynasty.  They were not as good as the college of Boca raton we played one spring.  They were men. And ridiculous to be a college team

I knew the old wash u coach here Joe Clarke. Was a legend coaching Slu. He said he didn’t even recruit at Wash u. Whoever showed for tryouts that was it. Said something like recruiting was a waste bc the admissions part was so challenging

Yep. Good kid. Good parents too. She played with her for 2-3 years b/c Zionsville's youth program sucks. She might have been Indy Fire but I can't remember.

Daughter hung it up after one year at Premier. Her CFC team stayed together for years but then fell apart after her freshman year in highschool. she played her sophormore year (hence the recruiting) but then got frustrated with club (which was the higher level play anyway) and left.

I remember telling her western Iowa was fucking brutal in the winter (can't even remember the name of the college). She got contacted by places (i can't remember exactly) like Hanover, Hutnington, Taylor (or Anderson, whatever), etc. Local stuff mostly. To be fair, I think she really gave up after freshman year and kinda floated through sophomore year without a ton of effort.

To be sure, while they can't "recruit" 8th graders or freshamn, they damn well come to the college showcases.

@old-crescent I know a bunch of nd grads. All have large families and are very proud

She went to a Zach Bryan concert at ND last night and now says she will apply there.

God, kids are stupid.

if I had daughters I would much rather they go to somewhere like ND over schools like IU, Tennessee or Texas.

But I have boys and want the exact opposite. 😂

Yeah, I get it.

Always a struggle to keep them motivated.

Played golf with Jurgen Sommer down here at a scramble at BCC and he seemed like a good dude.  Felt like he understood Carmel's best opportunity was to be a "good" State-level team, and not compete with the ECNL and GA teams.  My daughter's old ECNL coach just moved over to Carmel w Jurgen.  No nonsense English guy that finally ran out of juice at FC Pride...we've had some turnover on the girl's side.  Not sure what our daughter's future is in Lawrence, and getting NL caps, if he's not there...we'll see.

Thanks.  Depauw is just visit #1 of many (I assume).  We'll see how things go.

That said, as you mentioned, living in a "big school" town, with the access she has to go to games here, might spoil her interest in playing anywhere other than a Big 4 school...and I don't think she's at that level.

Her first ID Camp at Miami OH...told us the campus was "mid", and the football stadium was "small". 😄

I'm like "What?!?  You'd be lucky to get in this place, princess".

"Yeah, but it's not like Bloomington, Knoxville, Nashville, SMU (Dallas) or Tuscaloosa"...

😑

@mattndallas Lotta good DII schools out there. Super competitive too. The "naturally athletic" requirements in DI are usually a bridge too far for 95% of girls.

Good luck. Sounds like you're giving her the best advice. Or, well, trying to anyway, haha.
