But it's a matter of historical record that the Never Trump movement was an intraparty revolt led by establishment conservatives within the GOP who felt Trump was wholly unfit as the potential leader of both their party and the country. Any claim to the contrary is not only patently false, it's also just plain silly, because there's zero to be gained by inventing these made-up origin stories.

According to Wiki you have it right. But your description seems to be incomplete. The never Trump movement is much deeper than believing Trump is unfit. It has become extremely intolerant and stubborn. It has expanded that intolerance to anybody who agrees with Trump. At the deepest levels, never Trumpism has caused anxiety and rage towards anybody who agrees with Trump. It has broken families and friendships.
