they got here because of immigration.
That of course is true, but today’s immigration is not in any way the same as immigration of the early 20th century. The early immigrants accepted America as it was. They wanted to be part of the American story and dream. They wanted to protect it. Now immigrants, and many leftists, want to “fundamentally change” (Obama’s words) America. They reject our heritage. They proudly claim to be anti- capitalists. They want to eliminate free expression and free association. They are separatists and suprematists.
Lol... Caricature response if there ever was one.
@dbmhoosier it's impossible to deport 20+ million people in 20 months and politics is comparative. The foreign born population has dropped by 3 million people and there have been over 2 million deportations. How did the Big Donors win out? Also, name a President who has done a better job in the last 50 years?
The big donors got their cheap labor. Both Bush and Obama deported a lot more.
You’ve horseshoed around with your Israel hate and blame for everything and untrue immigration talking points. You just share ideology with the leftists now.
I think it takes a very long time. (4-5+ generations) for people to assimilate.
Huh? Im second generation. Im not assimilated?
For example Hispanics are much more likely to assimilate
Hispanics don't need to assimilate. They are original colonists and settlers throughout the American Southwest.

Below is some info from Google's AI on immigrants in 1900. Note, many planned to return home. They moved into neighborhoods of other similar immigrants. More than half didn't speak English. Their religion tended to differ from Americans who were here.
- The Shift: They were primarily from Italy, Russia, Poland, Austria-Hungary, and Greece.
- "Birds of Passage": A significant portion of standard immigrants were young, unskilled men traveling alone or with teenage sons. They intended to work hard, save money, and eventually return to their home countries (though many ended up staying permanently). [1]
- Religious Diversity: Unlike previous waves which were predominantly Protestant, the 1900 arrivals were largely Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, or Jewish. [1]
- The Journey: They typically traveled in the crowded, inexpensive "steerage" class of large steamships, arriving primarily through Ellis Island in New York Harbor, which processed hundreds of thousands of people annually at that time. [1, 2]
I agree with much of this. My grandparents fit that model in several ways. None of that was a rejection of America like we see now. What is your point?

You're talking to a guy who thinks AOC is from an immigrant family. Not sure he really has a deep understanding of "Hispanic."
I guess, technically, we all did.@snarlcakes Please explain how AOC got here because of immigration. That one's a head-scratcher.

I guarantee that is not an argument that snarl has ever put much truck by.

You’ve said this before, but be serious. Our dominant cultural, religious and especially civic tradition is/ was Anglo.
That requires assimilation.
It’s why the U.K. is more like the U.S. than Spain.
It’s the Anglo’s country. The rest of us are just visiting.
@co-hoosier So you won't stick with the old "they came and assimulated immediately" claim some make, fine. Now, prove your point. You said they reject America, what makes you say that? Do you have polling? I do, immigrants lover America more than native born.

As to the 1900's immigrants, maybe they should have tried to make America better. They came to a country in 1900 that was VERY racist; I dare you to dispute that. Why shouldn't they have wanted to improve America in that way instead of just accepting it?

Not Elizabeth Warren. Kinda.
Tantrums don't change outcomes
Losing is part of life. Sometimes the answer is simply NO.

I agree they don't have to assimilate. It's why I want an immigration moratorium and care about what percentage of the country is foreign born. If you take 100 million snarlcakes and move all us to India were not eating curry, wearing a dhoti, and watching cricket. Were eating steak, wearing penny loafers, and watching Football, actual football, not that ghey soccer.
The Marlborough Man is drenched in culture from South of the border. Food, architecture, religion, customs, music, art, and more are heavily influenced by Spanish and Mexican customs. But you are correct about English common law. Civil government is uniquely American everywhere.
