@snarlcakes Please explain how AOC got here because of immigration. That one's a head-scratcher.

I guess, technically, we all did.

I guarantee that is not an argument that snarl has ever put much truck by.

I care about the percentage of foreign born immigrants, where they come from, and who they vote for long term.  And I've been fighting for an independent Puerto Rico for decades now.  You colonizers can kiss my a#$.  Long live BBLs.

More:

“Audi executives defended the $4 billion project—planned to produce 200,000 SUVs annually starting in the early 2030s—stating that a U.S. manufacturing footprint is necessary to bypass heavy U.S. import tariffs that cost Audi roughly €1.2 billion ($1.4 billion) in the previous year. [1, 2, 3]”

Audi buyers did not pay the tariffs.

Buyers definitely pay some portion of the tariffs. You left the rest of the response to your AI question out. Here's all of it:

Economists and industry analysts do not pin down a single fixed percentage of U.S. auto tariffs paid directly by buyers, as the burden is split between the automaker, dealerships, and consumers through higher retail prices or reduced model availability. [1]
Key Details on Audi and Tariffs
  • Financial Impact on Audi: Tariffs have cost Audi roughly €1.2 billion to $1.4 billion ($1.3 billion–$1.4 billion) in absorbed profits/expenses because it imports every vehicle it sells in the U.S. from Europe or Mexico. [1, 2, 3]

  • Current Tariff Rates:
    • European-built Audi models face a 15% import tariff rate (adjusted via federal notice).
    • Mexico-produced models (such as the Audi Q5) have faced severe compounding trade measures and tariffs up to 52.5%. [1, 2, 3]

  • Consumer Price Increases: Industry experts note that major automakers cannot completely absorb high import levies (ranging from 15% to 25% or higher), leading to significant price bumps for buyers. For instance, market projections and discussion groups note that model price tags can jump substantially—such as potential increases around $18,000 on certain performance trims like the Audi RS3, pushing MSRPs toward $90,000. [1, 2]

  • Mixed Buyer Reactions: According to community and dealership insights on platforms like Reddit r/Audi, opinions and reactions are mixed: some buyers with active orders consider canceling or walking away if full tariff costs are passed down, while others hope dealerships or incentives buffer the hike. [1]

  • Long-Term Strategy: To escape ongoing import duties, Audi announced plans for its first U.S. manufacturing plant in Macon, Georgia (targeting production in the early 2030s), though vehicles remain 100% imported in the interim. [1, 2]

@arthur-dent

I’m not talking about the immigrants in that sample.

@co-hoosier what immigrants are you talking about and what poll shows their beliefs?

@co-hoosier and by the way, you said "immigrants" and not "some immigrants"

You left the rest of the response to your AI question out.

You are such an idiot.

My German friend, who reads German language news daily, said the Germans excoriated the Audi president for standing on the podium with Trump as the new plant was announced. They didn’t want Audi to help make Trump look good. The numbers I quoted were from the Audi response in the English version of that article. If AI was similar, it mined the same data I did.

You can read, right? The first paragraph has the same info your post did. Then there was more to the story. Americans are clearly paying some portion of the tariffs. Audi is not sucking it all up.

"Industry experts note that major automakers cannot completely absorb high import levies (ranging from 15% to 25% or higher), leading to significant price bumps for buyers. I've not called you an idiot. My response to your post about tariffs on Audi's was polite and not insulting. You've gotten cranky. 😉

@arthur-dent

I said today’s immigrants. Yeah the word is ambiguous. I’m talking about the most recent who are parts of massive migrations and illegal or phony entry.

Seems everyone agrees that the GOP will lose the House, and more and more analysts are saying the GOP will lose the Senate too. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes 50-50, or to 52-48 as this predicts: ElectIt

@co-hoosier I'd like to know how many you interviewed to reach that conclusion. We see a lot of stories of hard working illegal and legal immigrants. When the Haitians eating dogs comedy of errors happened, their employer and the governor stepped forward and said they were good citizens. I've seen roofing companies say their people are good workers. I am fairly confident migrant workers work hard.

So what exactly are these people trying to change? How are they not living up to your expectations. Not genetics, specifically what is happening so we can discuss it.

You've gotten cranky.

Only with a few of people.

I never denied customers paid more. No way to determine that impact since Audi prices remain competitive with all foreign imports. There really isn’t much domestic competition.

Zero. And I have no quarrel with most of them. Many are hard workers and trying to get by. But they have no impact. We have members of Congress claiming allegiance their native countries before the US. Did I say they are members of Congress?  That is despicable. Did I say they are members of Congress who were put  there by majorities of voters in their likely majority minority districts.  Did I say they are members of Congress?

@co-hoosier immigrants aren’t all the same. Some come from places where the beliefs inculcated better jive with America than others.  Some immigrants are more desirable to us than others.  Is what it is.  Moving 20,000 Danes to Boulder will look a lot different than 20,000 Somalis.  As will the consequences of same

I have an Audi sports coupe. It’s a gas guzzler but a blast to drive. My next car will be a little more practical and easier to get into. My dad can barely get in so we’ve started using his wife’s midsized SUV when I visit him. My wife has the practical car for passengers with very good gas mileage.
