And the response to this was to completely capitulate to the regime.  The way this went down is indefensible and if the deal that is supposedly being kicked around is the real deal, then Trump and his whole National Security team should be excoriated for gross incompetence.  We threw away so much for this attack and are now shrugging our shoulders and giving a better deal than Obama gave them.

His second term has been a shit show.

You're clearly the type of person who takes a road trip, realizes he's driving in the wrong direction, and never turns around.

I am the type of person who looks at a map, uses GPS, listens to friends who are saying the road is out up the ways and you might want to turn around.  Trump was the type who ignored everyone, told his friends and neighbors they were dumb assholes, drove his car off the cliff, and now wants credit for knowing how to call a truck to drag it out of the ravine.

If Barack Obama had done this you would (rightly) be flipping your wig right now. He burned up munitions that take years to replace, absorbed billions of dollars in losses to equipment and bases, blew off most of NATO, and he is (allegedly) going to freeze billions of dollars to an even more hardline regime than the one he killed, give them joint oversight of the straight of Hormuz, and he doesn't even have a half measure nuclear deal in place, just a wink and a nod to talk about it later.  And oh yeah, apparently we are moving forces out of Iran's area...whatever that means. This is literally a more expensive and worse deal than the JCPOA.

People died for this dip-shittery.  We are in a worse position than before he started.  Provide a defense for it other than, "Hey, he burned down the whole house but at least he had the wherewithal to pull out the garden hose to keep the ashes from spreading."  Cool, good for you Donald, but maybe you should have had the foresight to not set off a bunch of fireworks in the f---ing kitchen when so many people were telling you this wasn't a great idea.

Unbelievable incompetence. Indefensible stupidity.

Hopefully it’s just the typical bloviating because this would rate right up there with Biden’s actions during the Afghanistan withdrawal and Obama’s JCPOA as a national disgrace

You're out of your mind if you think Iran is in a better spot today than early February.

I think I'll wait to see what actually becomes of this "deal" before commenting much more. But it was always clear that it was going to be another similar version of JCPOA.

Which is ironically hilarious considering all the teeth gnashing that occurred for years after that deal. I'm sure it'll be spun differently, and our local propagandists will hair split the differences for us. Should be good comedy

@dbmhoosier if you like the foreign policy playbook of Democrats so much, why do you spend so much time opposing them?

It seems to me you prefer a Dem foreign policy stance, combined with a Republican domestic policy. It's actually not a new position, it's been around a long time. It's basically the Pat Buchanan party (which Trump once was a part of). Takes a bunch of policies from both and throws them together.

Goes way back to the 'Know Nothing' party of the 1800s. Which is basically still a proper name for it, in my view.

So the deal is: a) a return to the status quo ante on the Strait of Hormuz, b) the unfreezing of Iranian assets and c) kicking the can down the road on the key uranium stockpile issue.

Sounds like a great fucking deal.

Where you been? Everything good in your world?

Been around.  Just busy.  Everything is...decent on my end.  Can't complain.  How have you been?  Still keeping these dudes in line?

Good. Daughter had her HS graduation last night. Hard to fathom.  Off to UIUC in the fall.  Work life is picking up.

Re Iran and judging whatever happens, I think the #1 thing is the nukes.  If Iran gets a nuke (with an Islamic fundamentalist regime), we lose.  If we keep them from getting one, depending on the cost, we "win."

I wonder if we bankrupt ourselves making sure all these rogue regimes don't go nuclear. Then China will have to do it.  It sucks. It might be the best option.  I don't think anyone really knows the right answer.

My oldest has one more year to go. One of the truest things I think the elders in my life ever shared when we were young (and we laughed off) is that the older you get, the more time seems to speed up.

Yeah, if (important word) the deal is anything close to what is being floated, this whole affair was a complete failure.
