”Miscalculation“ implies there was initially some calculation by Trump. Bless your heart.I really think we're near the end. Trump is clearly bluffing in the hope that Iran will capitulate and he'll have something he can try to spin as a win. Won't happen and he'll pull out within a month is my prediction.
Look for him to bomb the shit out of Pickaxe Mountain and then claim the nukes are gone and our work is done.
That would still leave a shit-ton of questions, and there'd be more than a little lingering doubt about whether their nuclear program is kaput, but I could see him doing that.
This war has been a fiasco, with one miscalculation after another.
"The lack of clarity on the administration’s goals for the war — whether it’s preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, ensuring the Strait of Hormuz is open or destroying Iran’s missile and drone programs — has made planning an endgame difficult, the US official says.
The military has been preparing for a renewed major offensive without clear guidance, the US official tells NBC News.
“'We have had a series of tactical victories,' the official says. 'But are facing a strategic defeat without clear policy guidance or a decision about where this is going.'”

What if it is collateral prevention of iran's assistance to Russia, without saying that it is preventing iran's assistance to russia?
Divorce BEFORE you make any money! Do it quickly, do it often!

Why wouldn't they say it?
Iran has no intention of ever surrendering or signing a peace deal. They know Trump loses more every minute the war continues.
Trump is materialistic, Iran is spiritual. Trump’s in a hurry, Iran can wait indefinitely.
More bluster and bullshit from our Clown Prince.
First, he's illiterate. "We have been asked to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to." Pathetic.
Next, his bogus bravado was prompted by a call from MBS who raised concerns that Iran might respond to Trump's recent escalation by attacking Saudi Arabia's infrastructure. That, of course, flies in the face of Trump's repeated claims that Iran has been "decimated" militarily.
There's no deal, and the conman-der-in-chief has no idea what to do next.

I smell China helping Iran in the cyberwar element. I continue to believe this is just a part of an inevitable tri-partite global zone division between the US, China and Russia (if it survives intact).
I’m no fan of Iran, and wish that terrorist government/military nothing but grief, and believe the majority of the Iranian people would love to be rid them but can’t get that done under current religious/military circumstances. But you “war” by the seat of your pants in a series of reactive moments. Build a coalition and end this? Sure. But Trump has burned so many bridges any “coalition” may have to wait for the next GOP president (assuming the Democrats don’t win next and capitulate to the Socialists here and Commies everywhere else.)
What a mess. Not quite 1968, but the world sure is teetering.
A couple of things.
Iran is not a country, it is a religion. A fanatical one at that. Until that changes, no negotiated conclusion is possible.
Second, building an atom bomb is about intentions, not about facilities and equipment. We can bomb and destroy all the stuff necessary to assemble and deliver a bomb, but until these fanatics decide they don’t want one, our mission won’t be finished.

Good analysis here

Disagree, our mission is likely finished. The political and monetary costs of setting Iran's nuclear weapons program back for an uncertain amount of time is just too high, even for this admin. The Middle East has more domino effect than any place on the planet; downstream consequences there are always extra brutal. We also see that geography still trumps tech in 2026 and Iran has all the cards. We're reminded daily why every other admin of either party, hawkish or doveish, decided to build coalitions and engage diplomatically rather than do something stupid like this.

Yep. It is very tough to change fundamentalist radicalized minds.

How long before “we” threaten to use a nuke to destroy the “mountain” where their materials are hidden?
