@iunorth he’s an idiot. He’ll botch it. And I know federalism juris etc but we have entire areas where kids walk with ARs. Up and down the streets. There are parts of the north side more dangerous than anywhere in the world. They go into stores and restaurants their ARs on the counter. It’s almost unfathomable. Those kids and people deserve better. I don’t have time but I will post some you tube links that will blow your mind. 50 years of local politicians haven’t done shit. Enough is enough. Bend some rules to make it better. Don’t care
Are we approaching "too far" yet? Curious to hear the arguments for, and against, a sitting President ordering Federal Troops to take over policing one of our cities. Different because its DC?

Yes, almost all governments at all levels have went too far. As for this example, I'd rate it a 2 on the 1 to Covid scale.

@mcm666 I'm playing both sides of this. And my question about using the National Guard for certain situations was a genuine one. I'm just VERY worried about how this particular Admin will manage such efforts. I joked about the Subarus and anti Trump bumper stickers...but if I were a betting man, I would put money on those sorts of things starting to happen if Trump does start using troops in US cities.
There's no question there are a lot of areas of our country that are deteriorating, very quickly.
A National Guard force may act as a deterrent to crime but you’d have leave them there indefinitely to see lasting results.
If the federal government is going to involve itself in these cities I’d like to see it leverage FBI/ US Marshalls investigatory abilities and tactical teams to go after gang leadership with support from the U.S. attorney.
@carramrod This is one direction I was hoping this would lead. There's the symbolic side of tanks and infantry marching in the cities. And then there are potentially things that might actually help and work, longer term. Military intelligence capabilities, mainly.
Its a very, very touchy subject. Using our military capabilities to track our own citizens, as vile as some of them may be, is a bridge too far for many. Ironically, that bridge has been historically guarded by Republicans.
I think the quick "flip" on issues like this, is why I'm looking forward to 2028. People "shouldn't" be so quick to give up lifetime's worth of convictions, over one man. Especially one as flawed as Trump.
@snarlcakes Maybe... and today, maybe it is a 2 out of 10... but the second the troops end up killing a US Citizen, in a US City, it skyrockets up closer to a 10.

Oh we know. The Democratic Party = the bastion of freedom. In Canada right now you crazy leftists are literally fining people $25k for taking a hike in the woods.

@iunorth Memphis Baltimore Detroit Stl and on and on it’s very difficult to police. I’ll post videos tonight. Where all the kids walk around with ARs and it looks like gta the houses are bombed out. Spread out. By the time cops try find people they’re long gone. Beat cops don’t work. The houses are 200 yards apart. In many ways policing and fixing crime in big cities like ny and Chicago is easier than mid sized cities
shouldn't the state government of Missouri step in or have they? I would imagine they could do more and are closer to the situation than the feds.@iunorth he’s an idiot. He’ll botch it. I don't know the rule of law as it relates to D.C., considering how unique it is. Here are my quick pros and cons:
- Pro - sends a message to other cities to hopefully get them to increase aggressiveness in combatting violent crime, which shot up significantly across many of them post George Floyd Riots
- Pro - if the current system sucks, why not try and change? The 30 year low is a bunch of nonsense, mostly driven by two categories - burglaries and assault w/dangerous weapons. Homicides remain elevated from mid-2010s levels, despite being down from extremely high levels in 2021-2023
- Pro - could have a significant deterence on violent crime
- Pro - in theory would allow D.C.'s police to focus on solving crimes instead of needing to deal with prevention and deterrence
- Con - its idiotic to try and suggest whatever is being done in D.C. would be possible in other cities, both from a pragmatic and a legal standpoint
- Con - it would seem our troops would be better served elsewhere
- Con - going to stir up a bunch of unnecessary protests, beyond just D.C. from leftists
- Con - expands Federal governmental power, which is not what traditional conservatives support
Call Spike! He has been calling out local authorities and police for years. Are you only concerned because Trump authorized this cr@p but it was OK before.
