there were levels to the negligence.
it started with trump allowing fauci to talk. fauci is never going to consider the broader policy implications. he should have been the info for trump not the speaker. trump was incompetent
then the agencies we rely on were useless. cdc didn't even have a means to track people. tests were fckd up. they were just the embodiment of what most of us think of gov
then the politics began and the virtue signaling. the crazy left. masked up. locked down. incomplete statistics and stories. fear-mongering.
the expected retaliation from maga with group get togethers with no precautions
then the hypocrisy blm marching an inch apart but hey we thought we couldn't do that. well it's blm now we can.
our country isn't equipped. not homogeneous enough
MAGA: Trump's operation warp speed saved lives! Bravo!
Also MAGA: Covid was a hoax and the vaccines were for population control!
"You can't make someone listen to reason if they aren't willing to think"-- Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
powers that be that were scared shitless, tried a course of action that they thought was best and for whatever reason couldn't admit they were even partially wrong on anything.
This. It’s one of the things we need to learn from. It was one of Fauci’s biggest weaknesses.

No, it started with Trump downplaying the pandemic because he was afraid of how it would effect the election.
Moron
@hurryinghoosiers no there were precautions that good have been taken. we knew who was at risk and who wasn't. but because of politics and people like you blanket practices took place to the detriment of countless people who were never at risk. am i going into things that are too difficult for you to understand? kids in school didn't need to be in masks. it was absurd. among many other things. am i straying too far outside of the propaganda you allow to guide your life and decisions?
Oh for god sake. Go ahead and pull the back of his underwear up over his head already!

Divorce BEFORE you make any money! Do it quickly, do it often!
Downplaying? Trump was part of the hysteria.
He absolutely downplayed it early on. Even claimed it would be over by Easter. You don’t remember this? Fauci has several entries about Trump trying to downplay it and asking to be “positive” about it too.
You could read this for yourself in links provided here. Serious question and not meant as an insult - did you stop reading when you retired? As a lawyer you probably had to read a ton so it wouldn’t totally surprise if you cut way back.
Downplaying? Trump was part of the hysteria.
Your ignorance is astounding. Trump downplayed it until he couldn't hide it any longer. It was nothing to be worried about. Over by Easter. It will go away. Just inject disinfectant and poof it will be gone. It's just the flu. Understated the number of deaths that were piling up multiple times because he was worried the real numbers would effect his election in November.

As soon as he realized that he couldn't hide it any longer, he became more worried about who he could blame (China then Fauci) to distract from his shit response to the pandemic. Because it obviously had nothing to do with him firing the Pandemic Response Team in 2018 nor that he waited so long to take it seriously to get the public moving on taking precautions in a timely manner (sarcasm). By the time precautions were taken, it had already taken many lives. And then there was a lot of pushback about taking precautions in a pandemic because Trump and republicans politicized it to get people to blame dems for having to social distance.
Everything Trump did was about trying to win the election and not about being the adult in the room to lead a coherent pandemic response in order to save lives during a deadly pandemic. And now you still have idiots that think taking precautions didn't save lives. See Probert for an example.
I don't understand what the gotcha is supposed to be here, at all. The tidbits released show Fauci talking to virologists about what they knew and didn't know about a very new infectious agent. There's really no meat there.
Concur. I’ve read a couple dozen excerpts and I’ve seen nothing exciting in any of them. Thursday’s hearing may be a huge snooze fest.I don't understand what the gotcha is supposed to be here, at all. The tidbits released show Fauci talking to virologists about what they knew and didn't know about a very new infectious agent. There's really no meat there.
Also, seems like a real dick move to release the guy’s private diary like that.
Good grief. Trump made theatrical activation of the hospital ships Comfort and Mercy, and a showy order under the Defense Production Act to order General Motors to produce ventilators during March and April of 2020. Maybe you think that is downplaying, but I don’t. You need to stop reading and listening to the never Trump media and actually think about what is going on.
Also, seems like a real dick move to release the guy’s private diary like that.
I could be wrong, but I read it as less of a "private diary" and more of a "daily log of work notes."
@aloha-hoosier @goat I’m not sure it’s a big gotcha but his public assertions re natural transmission vs private concerns about a leak are an issue. For myriad important reasons. Temporal. Investigation. Spoliation. Etc.
broadly his vanity reflected isn’t what you want either. It makes one not open to correction or admission of mistakes
I couldn't imagine buying onto that bullshit, and now knowing that whatever heart issues I was having, or cancerous shenanigans was going on to me and my loved ones, was potentially, but most probably, caused by my derrangement over some Dem NYC real estate guy becoming President.
Imagine laying there in your (or their) deathbed knowing, but still kinda denying...
But in your soul, knowing. You basically killed yourself or a loved one because of Trump. Woof.
