Reason #1, Pardons are effective for accusations made up until the date of the pardon, not a get-out-of-jail-free card for future allegations. It appears that the main purpose of the interrogation was to catch an 85-year-old man on some misstatement he might make today, likely viewed after being lifted from context and without any scientific insight. A gotcha. His 5th A pleas prevented that.
Reason #2 is that the presidential pardon doesn’t cover state prosecutions and at least two states, Alabama and Florida, have indicated a willingness to charge him.
Reason #3 is that many MAGA lawmakers have asserted that the pardon itself should be declared invalid. If that is ever clarified in their favor, he of course has no immunity whatsoever.

I spent some time on this board ridiculing people for claiming that the SARS-CoV-2 was an human-engineered bioweapon that was released on purpose by China.
I also shared the factual epidemiological evidence on how and where it spread, relayed my personal conversations with several virologists that I collaborate with, and shared data on the genetic profiling of other natural coronaviruses isolated from wild bats and pangolins native to China. Much of the data I shared was supported by direct links to peer-reviewed scientific publications in major journals such as Cell and Nature.
What I didn't do was ever state that it was impossible that some lab worker became infected after exposure to an infected animal and that it then spread to others after contact with the infected worker. That sort of lab leak, while extremely rare, is at least plausible. But in my opinion it is not supported by any hard evidence and by the spread of the disease, which was in concentric circles centered on the market rather than on the virology institute some 20 miles away. That fact is hard to explain without even wilder hypotheses, such as that the infected worker didn't infect any family or coworkers but instead traveled to the market, infected many people there, and that he even took with him infected animals so that later genetic tests showed the presence of the virus in the market's animal caging areas.

@bar-down I've posted many times a similar version of this. I wonder though, what keeps Trump from piling on, at this point? Maybe he will more going forward? But Covid is the single biggest thing that caused Trump's loss in 20... you'd think he'd be jumping at the opportunity to "Trump the chit out of Fauci." I think Covid was real and serious enough, that it even scared the chit out of Trump... and probably still does. He lies, misrepresents, talks chit... about basically all other people and events. Its strange he hasn't really went in on Fauci a ton. He obviously has some, but not in true Trump style and volume.
He spent time in Walter Reed hospital with COVID. Probably scared him quite a bit. He’s taken the COVID vaccination soon as he could and every year since, including at his first semiannual after being elected President again. Operation Warp Speed was a first term accomplishment and he deserves some kudos for it.@iunorth he was the at risk demo. Old and fat.

it was a disgusting time that arose because of three things:
1) trump's incompetence
2) allowing fauci to talk

I respectfully disagree. I think he was trying to supply honest transparency in the beginning. Then he stepped into a golden pile of shit by allow us all to see how fraudulent our legacy swamp creature are. It is really a standard Trump achievement. Attempt one thing and then win because of unforeseen circumstances, by accident. Either way, if fauxci wasn't given the mic, we all wouldn't have been informed as we are now. We are now informed of a monster that spends 99.9% of it's time hiding itself, and the other .1% paying itself handsomely. (%'s mentioned may not be exactly quantitative)

@joe_hoopsier allowing fauci to speak fed the virtue signaling that was latched onto by the local blue politicians and the media. trump should have known that hte concerns and interests of someone who spent 173 years in the health department wouldn't coincide with broader policy concerns that needed to be taken into account as well.
