Tariffs matter less than the Iran war debacle, but they still matter. Not only the inflationary aspect, but also closing of markets for American goods, in retaliation tariffs.
For instance, American farmers are generally not in your top 10%. But they are hit with diesel fuel tripling in price (war effect), groceries going up (war & tariffs), and commodities prices falling due to entirely closed or greatly reduced export markets (tariff effect).
Keepin’ it real.Rubio is the best least bad candidate by a long mile. Everyone else has a lot of work to do.
@co-hoosierIt's when he started to try to explain his weird understanding of nationalism that things went off the rails.
Without a mutual understanding of terms there are no rails.
Socrates: "The beginning of wisdom is the definition of terms."
Voltaire: "If you wish to converse with me, define your terms."
"Define your terms, you will permit me again to say, or we shall never understand one another."
In Leviathan, Hobbes wrote that anyone who skips settling the definitions of their words will "find themselves entangled in words, as a bird in lime-twigs."
Locke dedicated a massive portion of his work to the "imperfection and abuse of words," noting that men frequently take words for things without ever defining the ideas behind them, resulting in endless, meaningless controversy.
I'm an event coordinator, not a chemistry professor. Tariffs probably don't bother shooter, but I have to honor price quotes that I gave 9 months ago for an event, not expecting food and transportation costs to skyrocket to the point that I need to scramble every month just to do payroll. I just turned 59 1/2, so I can start drawing on IRAs without penalty to pay the bills until the insanity stops. I didn't want to do that, but this economy sucks and I am not a 10 percenter.

This is great news. We have the annual Dream Team event coming up in Auburn. Would you mind coordinating it? Also, do you guys have pigs in a blanket? They're always a hit at the annual.
pigs in a blanket... always a hit at the annual.
It figures, that you can't handle the aged ribeye
@co-hoosier Nationalism almost always includes elements of sovereignty, but it doesn't imply the nation in question is already sovereign. Often, the sovereignty is aspirational. Hence the numerous movements that are both nationalist and separatist. Or, historically, movements that were both nationalist and unificationist, like the Großdeutsche Lösung.
German Unification is similar to the 13 colonies uniting against Great Britain. This view of nationalism is consistent with what Rubio said and you criticized.
@co-hoosier No, it wasn't. The motivations were entirely different. Although I do think the presence of an infant American nationalism in the revolution is a rich territory for discussion.
And I didn't criticize nationalism. I criticized trying to tie nationalism to Western cultural unity.
Nobody gives a sh#t about tariffs besides Murt and he's still voting GOP.
The two things Trump has done to make your life unaffordable (American's #1 concern, by every poll) are 1) crazy tariffs and 2) an ill-advised strategically inept neverending Middle East war. So I disagree.
Tariffs haven't done shit for affordability for the bottom 50-75% of society. They're a tax that are almost entirely paid by businesses, other countries, and the top 10-20% of Americans. I agree the Iran War has raised costs.
Businesses pass that tax on to consumers via higher prices. You can't be this ignorant on how things work
