In a few days, King Charles will be the first English monarch since the Reformation to share a prayer service with the Pope. This was reportedly one reason the jettison of Prince Andrew came to a head this week - to prevent him from distracting from what is to be an historic occasion. Obviously, this isn't likely to end the schism between the Roman and English churches, but the English church (at least, the official one) has always been closer to Rome than other Protestant denominations, and this rapprochement will be seen as symbolically very meaningful.
