Yeh, not keeping up as much is why I miss out on some of the new artists. Mayer was pop so I had heard of him. G;lad that he changed so will check him out. Joe Bonamusa is in 50's so he will jammin for a while.
How does one classify Genx vs Boomer music. Many of the bands in the 80's that folks want to call Gen-X were Boomers playing the music. U2 was formed in 1976 and Bono is like 66 years old. That doesn't seem Gen-X to me. Anyway, I don't care what era they are from but psychedelic from the late 60's through classic rock in the 70's and 80's is typically my go to music. I'd like to see Larissa Liveir join a rock band that tours in the US or see the band (Honey Bomb) from Brazil she is in come to states.
@sig if you look at univee’s post I think it provides a solid timeline for booker music. My pop would ride shotgun with univee in a heartbeat. While bono and Michael stipe and the rest are getting up there I think they appealed to the younger crowd. They’re old Gen X.

I don't think the timeline is solid for Boomer music but that is fine. It's the young Boomer music not the older Gen-X music. It is not just limited to the 60's legendary stuff from the Love and Peace hippie days. I consider ZZ, rush, Kiss, alice cooper, Mott the Hoople, Van Halen, Cars, Police, U2, Montrose, Golden Earring, Pink Floyd, Nazareth, Bachman turner, REO Blue Oyster Cult all Boomer music.

A good determining factor of boomer vs gen x music is who had a strong presence on MTV in the 80s. U2, Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson, REM et al definitely fall into that category.

I saw James Taylor two weeks ago and it was a great show. He's 78 and had a lot of energy and his vocals were strong. He had a great backing band also.

I'm not saying aging musicians can't perform well as they approach or are in their 80s. My feeling is that once they actually can't perform it's on them or the people around them to call it quits. I'm not surprised James Taylor put on a good show. I feel like his type of singing could age well.

I don't have a ton of vinyl, but that is one album I have on vinyl. This is kind of taking me way back, but sometimes my ex-wife and I would put that on in the background while we made breakfast and had coffee on a slow Sunday morning.
@bradstevens there are good bands out there. For my money, Fontaines DC is the best 'new' band out there. The Strokes are still doing some interesting stuff. A new band that's about to explode - Westside Cowboy - is pretty cool too. There are bands out there, but reaching the levels some of the legends from the 60s - 80s did is a lot harder these days. There are a lot of things pulling peoples' attention different directions, concerts are more and more expensive, etc, etc.
