he saddest part about aging rock stars is that there are not any younger ones out there to take their place.
Rock will be dead before I am, I fear. Meanwhile, rap still exists.
I think there are definitely "new/younger" bands worth seeing and listening to, but there will never be bands like the Beatles or the Rolling Stones.
You must believe in unicorns if you believe Gen X music is superior.
Make your case.
Are you going to tell me that grunge, new wave and hip hop are superior? Oh, the humanity.
Now, don't get me wrong I love me some boomer music.
That said, the golden ages of the three biggest genres and their subgenres (Metal, Outlaw Country and Rap) are firmly Gen X.
A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"

I like Zeppelin, Skynyrd, and some others, but the 80s and 90s were more my style of music vs. the Eagles, Beatles, and Stones. The best boomer was Tom Petty and he appealed as much to the next gen as he did his own.

I agree, though all of the boomer artists you list are on my playlist as well as dozens of others not listed. But they share space with twice as many artists who came from and spoke to my generation.

Yoko Ono’sstill got it.
hard to believe that she’s 93 now. During one of her last public appearances she was in a wheelchair. Supposedly she lives in a house upstate New York where she moved during COVID. I can’t imagine she has much time left.

so many good bands there. I’d throw in the Breeders, Pavement, Luna, Afghan Whigs, Belle and Sebastian and Guided By Voices into that mix and you pretty much have my 1990s/ early 2000 playlist rotation
@sig Go see John Mayer. No, of course I'm not kidding.
He's still young. ish.
Dave Chappelle does these comedy shows essentially in his backyard in Yellow Springs, Ohio and he'll have special unannounced guests. I've never been, but friends have seen Bill Murray, Dave Letterman, and Jon Stewart all at different times. My cousin was at a show where John Mayer played a set.
What's crazy is that these shows started during COVID and are small-ish by design. The acts all regularly interacting with the crowds and getting feedback in real time. According to my cousin, Mayer did a pretty cool set and said that he actually had some time left if anyone had any requests. My cousin had seen him play with members of the Grateful Dead at one point (Dead & Co?), so while everyone else is yelling out 'My Body is a Wonderland' or that one about running through the halls of his high school, my cousin yells out 'Althea.' Mayer stops all the other requests and said something about 'there's one.' Then he's basically talking with my cousin about how it's been awhile since he's played that and asking him to try and remember how to play it. He eventually rips into it and my cousin said it was awesome.
Yeah, I'm not sure he ever intended to be a pop star but it paid well i'm sure. he seems to be enjoying the music and touring these days. Great chops on the guitar and vocally. Good in a band as well.@sig Go see John Mayer. No, of course I'm not kidding.

That sure is a stylish breaststroke you’re doing, in quicksand.
We can put up “Live at Fillmore East,” by the Allman Brothers, “Who’s Next” and any two or three songs from each of Santana’s first three albums - and we haven’t even gotten to the Stones, Zep, The Band, Clapton, Cream, Traffic, Blind Faith, Hendrix, Dire Straits, Dylan, J.J. Cale and on and on and on - and swamp your soon-to-be-forgotten-forever-to-musical-history wonders.
Five banners vs a Helms . . . .
It is known.
Can anyone here play this game?
