@goat that makes sense, but I wonder if there is some good faith “negotiating” with our allies we placed tariffs on. Removing those tariffs might help with relations with the EU.

@big-ryan it’s a question of scale. And if you apply scale to that assertion, it’s correct.

@big-ryan George Soros and his son Alex Soros have steered roughly $102.8 million into the 2026 midterm election cycle, making them among the top individual political donors supporting Democratic candidates and committees. The vast majority of these funds have been routed through Democracy PAC, the family-backed super PAC, with only a small fraction given directly in their names

you think harris and biden thought of open borders defund and all the rest on their own?  these people are all proxies on both sides.

it's terrible.

Look at this DA here.  Funded by Soros PACs.  Unreal.  Dems are insane.

I can’t wait for the next Democratic administration to remove the tariffs Hickory, Bowl, Zeke and the other progressives complain about…oh wait that won’t happen

Why wouldn't they remove those? I'm not saying they will. I just think it'd be a big, easy win for a new administration to 'undo some of the Trump damage.' Murt has talked about it hurting his businesses and just about anything imported these days costs more due to the 'US import tax.'

Again, maybe you're right. I just don't get why they wouldn't remove them. I think it'd be popular with individual consumers.

Same reason Biden didn't, although it isn't the reason Snarl thinks, because Snarl is, I dunno, blinded by partisan hatred, apparently.

No, the real reason is, you don't unilaterally give up ground during a negotiation. If China wants tariffs removed, then you don't remove them until China tells you what they are going to give you in exchange. Whether you like the tariffs or not is immaterial. Whether you thought they were a good idea or not is immaterial. They exist. You inherited them. And you don't just give them up without something in exchange. I think a guy who wrote a book called "The Art of the Deal" or some stupid bullshit like that might have a simple explanation of it.

I can buy that wrt China. Is it safe to assume the EU tariffs and others will be lifted day one of a Democratic administration? If not, and they use it as leverage, the Dem would be engaging in the same sort of geopolitical hardball with our allies that Trump is so criticized for.

@ohio-guy @carramrod That depends how the next two years go, but as of right now, we already have a deal with the EU, it just hasn't been fully implemented on our end yet (we have until the end of this year). If that deal holds, then, no, you don't just unilaterally lift what tariffs remain, since they will have been agreed upon in a bilateral manner, but as the EU is a valued strategic partner, you absolutely see if they want to go back to the table and perhaps negotiate a deal with even freer trade. If, however, we don't fulfill our obligations, and the next Prez takes office with the US technically in violation of the agreement, then, yes, I think it would be helpful to remove the violating tariffs very quickly. Might take a little negotiation to ensure that the EU's retaliatory tariffs would be automatically lifted upon us doing our end, but it should happen without any haggling. Certainly wouldn't want to use our continued violation of an agreement in place as "leverage."

If you actually read the story instead of just the tweet, you realize that this very much sounds like the problem is with the sheriff's office, not the DA.

https://www.wtoc.com/2026/08/13/chatham-county-da-warns-sheriffs-office-cases-may-be-dropped-over-weak-evidence/

They didn't even include evidence identifying the perpetrators or details of the crime itself? Of course she can't prosecute that. The defense attorney will point out that the state has provided zero evidence that his clients actually did anything at all, and the judge will throw the case out.

@goat He NEVER reads the story itself or tries to verify even the most incredible tweets. He believes them without any question at all. He says he's a lawyer. 😉

@bar-down I understand your frustrations, and I certainly have no desire to see any of the left loonies in power.

You also live in what's possibly the worst city in the country. A place that's lost something like 60-70% of it's population from it's peak. It's a very sad depressing place. What's left there is the worst of society that has no prospects and no hope. And that just feeds into the downward cycle of crazies. I don't think the experience of STL is comparable to what most of the county sees day to day. At some point it will need to bottom out and do a Detroit style rising from the ashes. But not sure it's there yet.

@twenty I’m not sure we can ever be Detroit for a few reasons. The co city divide. The money is in ladue Clayton town and country etc and everyone else that could fled the city.  So f it.

we also don’t have a Dan Gilbert.  My close buddy works with him. When I wanted out of law and had my business idea I went to them to fund it. 7 plus figures.  Dan had already bought a ton of commercial real estate downtown and then anyone they funded they required they move into those buildings.  Stl doesn’t have an advocate like that.

@bar-down yes you need a Gilbert or also JP Morgan did some huge investing in Detroit, something like $2B.

But Detroit was awful and more abandoned than STL. All the money and anyone of means was out north in Oakland county, etc...

@twenty yep! Jack Dorsey doesn’t care.  The billionaires otherwise only want sports.

@zeke4ahs @big-ryan so to be clear, since Trump is a stain on humanity, the Dems have chosen to nominate anti-American communists and terrorists? The way to combat this isn't to go much further to the extreme.

@jdb good luck with that.  they'd have their property seized by the government while being held at gunpoint by a prison release and still be obsessed with trump.

Take heart. Mike Rogers is going to win Michigan in a year Dems should probably win because the Dems, in their infinite wisdom, nominated Jihad Joe.
