When I lived up there at the "turn of the century," Oakland County had the 2nd highest per capita income in the country, behind only Nassau County.

The MSA itself is much bigger, but neither of them are actual large cities. I think Fort Wayne is roughly the same size as St Louis.

@twenty I’m not sure we can ever be Detroit for a few reasons. The co city divide. The money is in ladue Clayton town and country etc and everyone else that could fled the city. So f it.
we also don’t have a Dan Gilbert. My close buddy works with him. When I wanted out of law and had my business idea I went to them to fund it. 7 plus figures. Dan had already bought a ton of commercial real estate downtown and then anyone they funded they required they move into those buildings. Stl doesn’t have an advocate like that.
Maybe Cincinnati is a better model for St. Louis than Detroit. 3CDC has been the face of revitalization in and around Cincinnati, especially in Over the Rhine, which had be a total pit for decades. There are whole streets and blocks in that area where you just wouldn't go under any circumstance 10-20 years ago that now have nice restaurants, shops and parks everywhere. FC Cincinnati's stadium wouldn't have been where it is now if they started planning for it 10-20 years ago.
That said, 3CDC's board and biggest benefactors are some pretty heavy hitters from places like Kroger, P&G, GE, and other places like that. Definitely have to have the investment from groups and places like that.
