Stevens has not coached college ball in over a decade and hasn't coached at Boston in 5 years. He's certainly had many offers. He's clearly done with coaching. Not sure why his name keeps getting brought up.
I don't know what happened last year but I did hear from a very good source (big time IU donor well into the millions) that when they fired Archie they thought Stevens was a done deal. They really thought they had him then he backed out very last minute. Said it was the only reason they pulled the trigger on Archie's massive buyout which was set to drop substantially the next year. Mark Titus also said they had a family vote and Brad was the only one who voted to come to IU. No idea if true but what I heard.
We also heard that Billy Donovan was house shopping in Bloomington, and we got Archie Miller. There are always rumors.
WVU vs. IU in the NIT would be an intriguing matchup.
On that note, I rarely watch/listen to podcasts, but I checked out a WVU one the other day for shits and giggles. Man, do they despise DD. Some of it is just sour grapes and theoretical nonsense, to be sure, but I learned some (factual/documented) things I didn't know. No need to get into specifics, but let's just say it was a classless exit (among other things).
Moreover, it's quite possible the move was in the works before Woody was "retired" (which some on here believe as well). I'm not claiming that as fact because we'll never truly know, but the signs are there.
None of this matters ... but it is compelling.
Well, it is certainly pretty odd to make a lateral move after only one season. You do not see it happen very often. And give the state of IU basketball yes, I do consider it a lateral move. And it was not like he tanked they almost made the ncaa.
He did go from $1.8M/year to $5M at IU.........Now, had he stayed at WV they may have bumped him to $3M or so, but they wouldn't have paid him what we did.
One thing I wanted to mention....I've never put much stock into blaming the IU fans for these disastrous results.....until now. I do think that we are now in an odd situation where people are not nearly as supportive to the team/coaches as they have been, but still care enough to be pissed off when they see more bad results.....the fan base is both apathetic and quick to anger, which makes for a less than pleasant environment for recruits...

I've been saying the same thing for years

As a follow-up. earlier in the year I was thinking I needed only two things from this season: 1. Beat Purdue once; and 2. For Purdue not to win the NC. Same as I wanted last year. The first happened; it's sure not looking good for Purdue. But I'm more pissed off this year because we knew Woodson would be going bye-bye, but we're stuck with Durwood DeVries for 1 more year.
@arioznahoosier4554 I don't blame him for the move, but an "Irish goodbye" shows no class.

Because the boards have mostly soured on Alford.Stevens has not coached college ball in over a decade and hasn't coached at Boston in 5 years. He's certainly had many offers. He's clearly done with coaching. Not sure why his name keeps getting brought up.

That could make sense the rumor was a booster actually paid the buyout. I guess that is why nothing is ever certain til they sing on the dotted line. I also did not realize DD was making 5 million a year I thought it was like 3.5. He certainly is not worth anywhere close to 5 million from what I have seen- that is more than Dusty May, Underwood and Painter make. Woodson was also one of the top paid coaches in the big ten. Unreal.

That's exactly what I was thinking.. stupidity galore
The price of poker. I don't think we can rant that we always go cheap, and also rant after we paid up to get the guy we wanted. One doesn't work with the other. I won't mention that we paid a buyout for him too though.
Jury is out. Coach DeVries could easily be the best coach (minus ####### Sampson) we've had since Coach Knight. I know that bar is laying on the ground and easy to step over, but still.

We pay more to get someone. It’s a really tough job for a coach, and a potential career killer.
