Stevens has not coached college ball in over a decade and hasn't coached at Boston in 5 years. He's certainly had many offers. He's clearly done with coaching. Not sure why his name keeps getting brought up.

I don't know what happened last year but I did hear from a very good source (big time IU donor well into the millions) that when they fired Archie they thought Stevens was a done deal.  They really thought they had him then he backed out very last minute.  Said it was the only reason they pulled the trigger on Archie's massive buyout which was set to drop substantially the next year.  Mark Titus also said they had a family vote and Brad was the only one who voted to come to IU.  No idea if true but what I heard.

That could make sense the rumor was  a booster actually paid the buyout. I guess that is why nothing is ever certain til they sing on the dotted line. I also did not realize DD was making 5 million a year I thought it was like 3.5.  He certainly is not worth anywhere close to  5 million from what I have seen- that  is more than Dusty May, Underwood  and Painter make. Woodson was also one of the top paid coaches in the big ten. Unreal.

Tom Izzo

Michigan State

$6.2 million

Mick Cronin

UCLA

$6.1 million

Darian DeVries

Indiana

~$5 million

Matt Painter

Purdue

$4.85 million

Brad Underwood

Illinois

$4.8 million

Fred Hoiberg

Nebraska

$4.75 million

Dusty May

Michigan

~$4.65 million

Kevin Willard

Maryland

$4.1 million

Those numbers aren't right are they?>. We pay this jackass more than dusty Brad and Painter????? WTF IU

I think so I never paid attention to what we paid him but woodson I know was paid like top three money in the big ten. We are really good at throwing away money it seems. Medved at Minnesota makes like 3.2 million. So when people say you cannot fire a coach after two years I say well if he is making 5 million the expectations better be high so we cant you fire him if they are not met? 5 million a a year should bring with it expectations to reach the sweet sixeteen by year two. He looks to be top four regardless just like woodson was.

DeVries' annual average salary of $4.5 million would have been fourth among Big Ten coaches last season, trailing Tom Izzo of Michigan State, Matt Painter of Purdue and Brad Underwood of Illinois.

@arioznahoosier4554 Maybe DD wouldn't come for anything less ... and/or perhaps the admin didn't want to come off as cheap. In a vacuum, it's not an unreasonable contract. If, however, DD gets a raise after this season, THAT would be unreasonable.

Yeah but it jus amazes me what we keep paying guys given the results we get. Woodson got top three money in the big ten and had a career record of 41-39. DD will likely finish in 10th or 11th place this year. He really needs to be top five in the big ten next year to justify paying him that imo.

Like why would you pay top three money for Woodson a guy not one other D1 team in the country wanted. Let me guess quinn probably negotiated his contract or should I say grift.

Likley, so that one is easy to conclude ... why we pay DD 5m... unreal. He had accomplished nothing , that's why I've advocated for part of his salary to be used to pay for Tucker this year.

I've always thought coach salaries should have a much lower base, and some big bonuses for achievement. But "it just isn't how it's done" for some reason.

@hoosiers94 Painter seems pretty fedup with the fanbase this year as they've turned on him again with PU flopping down the stretch. Perhaps he starts flirting around again like he did with Missouri a few years back.

Purdue has been satisfied with Painter's ceiling of "solid conference team" for years now, why would they change? And why would he leave?

There was a lot of talk at the time coming out of Iowa that Doorknob was their 1st choice......and that Iowa was Durwood's first choice.  Dullson wanted him, and may have needed to pay him what he did to get him.  I know for sure CDD was the 1st choice for Iowa's fans on the basketball board.
