We definitely kicked the tires on pie in the sky guys like Stevens. Most thought we did backchannel guys like Otz

Two things. First, it's quite possible Stevens didn't get a call. I don't know for sure, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if his "no" in 2021 was an eternal "no." He has a great gig with a storied NBA franchise; it wouldn't make sense to leave for IU or any other college program ... and he may have no desire to return to coaching.

As for Otz, no thank you. I may think DD is meh, but Otz is MEH.

There were guys on btwon banners convinced Stevens was going to be the hire  when we hired Woodson. They claimed we offered him some crazy amount like 9 million a year.  I find that hard to believe is we had 9 million for him yet then went down to  3 million to get woodson. If that much money was really available we could have done alot better than woodson. I think it was made up bs.

They didn't go "down" to 3 million, they were forced to hire Woodson by Buckner. Why would you pay him anymore than that? Dolson was allowed 1 swing for the fences and it was Stevens and it failed.

ESPN reported it. Stevens had to say in a presser he wasn't coming. If you think its made up, then its obvious you're simply looking to for ways to fit your narrative.

Who would you have hired that all the other major programs (with more success and several with better resources) could not hire last time?

IU is not cheap. We've paid more in buyouts the past 20 years than any program in history.

I would not pay more than 3 million for woodson he isnt even worth 1 million.  I am saying its odd the 9 million was only available for stevens but no other high level coach. Do I 100% think its made up no but parts of it might be just hearsay we will never know for sure some made it seem like he was ready to take the job. The fact we were forced to hire woodson just shows how unserious at least quinn is about becoming a blue blood again. All these former IU greats are terrible coaches and clearly terrible at making decisions. I guess it was just about the old boys club and helping your buddy.

Showing we went cheap when it comes to hiring athletic administration talent.

when you shop at outlet malls you get and outlet mall coach.  Disposable goods nothing that lasts long or performs well.  You buy the good stuff... it's worth it.. you get what you pay for ... we've gotten what we've paid for... our laziness or lack of pursuing the best candidates for the job had caused these huge buyouts.  Mistake after mistake. So let's just keep shopping at the outlet mall then so we can rinse and repeat.

The fact that we're having this discussion yet again is so disheartening. Different coach, different players ... same results.

F---ing Groundhog Day. Might as well just hire Punxsutawney Phil at this point.

@hoosiers94

I'm saying good AD talent might have identified the up and comers. Wouldn't have necessarily cost an arm and a leg. Anybody can notice the top coach and offer them a huge bag. Doesn't always work

Our AD and admin now seems better than before. A bit. So Scott (and Pam) owns this. His hire had better pan out.

WVU vs. IU in the NIT would be an intriguing matchup.

On that note, I rarely watch/listen to podcasts, but I checked out a WVU one the other day for shits and giggles. Man, do they despise DD. Some of it is just sour grapes and theoretical nonsense, to be sure, but I learned some (factual/documented) things I didn't know. No need to get into specifics, but let's just say it was a classless exit (among other things).

Moreover, it's quite possible the move was in the works before Woody was "retired" (which some on here believe as well). I'm not claiming that as fact because we'll never truly know, but the signs are there.

None of this matters ... but it is compelling.

@gthomas What podcast, and how do you know what they said was factual? I listened to one after CDD was hired and they were overall pretty complimentary. It was 3 guys, one did the game broadcasts and another was a local TV sports guy, don't remember who the third was. But their take was basically, IU > WVU and CDD is a pretty good coach. Why not get into specifics, you're just repeating what was said on a podcast?

Stevens has not coached college ball in over a decade and hasn't coached at Boston in 5 years. He's certainly had many offers. He's clearly done with coaching. Not sure why his name keeps getting brought up.

Well, it is certainly pretty odd to make a lateral move after only one season. You do not see it happen very often.  And give the state of IU basketball yes, I do consider it a lateral move.  And it was not like he tanked they almost made the ncaa.

Lunardi has us in, still as of today.  Joby Nitty Gritty, which according to google is one of the highest rated bracketologists, still has us in.  Delphi, another one of the highest rated ones, does NOT have us in.

If we beat Minny and OSU, we're in.  The bubble is near historically bad this year.  Obviously if there are a ton of bid stealers, that will impact our chances.  But even at that, if we win our last two games, I'll bet we're in as a 10 seed, not even really in danger of getting bumped.

No arguments there. We've had as many ADs during that time as coaches. Thats no coincidence.
