The Reactionary Take: Taking Stock of IUBB?

@openwheel in the meantime IU needs to win the next 4. 2 cupcake gimmes at home, a mediocre Washington team at home and then a road win against a bad Maryland team. That would be the first true road win and while its not super special, you have to start somewhere.

That would at least create some momentum heading into a home game against a very good (and currently undefeated) Nebraska team as the next 'big' game.

@surjay I don't think they "have" to win at Maryland.  But obviously that would be a big win, and a great sign of improvements. I happen to think ALL of our home games are winnable.  And there are quite a lot of them that would boost our resume.

Maryland is certainly a winnable road game though.  And we need to get a couple of those, at least,  for sure.

@iunorth I don't think we can have another loss to a terrible team right now because we have no true quality wins.

Maryland would be a Q3 loss and this team cannot afford it. Statistically it would be worse than the Minn. loss.  Also, if we're also talking about this team turning things around or playing better this is a game that must be won, otherwise we're in the same boat.

Well, the vaunted 'largest alumni base' is supposed to get the NIL for us.

I hear that over and over. So, we should be good.

So far the new coach has tried to connect, but he's not naturally super charismatic. So it will take winning. Chicken and the egg issue.

Big checks are rolling in for football. Spare change is rolling in for hoops.

@gthomas have to start winning to get doubting donors on board and hit the pavement making connections to bring in new ones.

I doubt the donors who propped up Bigfoot will donate moving forward and I fully expect that Woodson and QB have told them not to to sabotage his replacements.

DD is about as exciting as Archie was and you have to sell yourself and your program. Pretty hard to do when you are boring and have no track record yet. Woodson had friends in very high places connected to donors who got them to open their wallets. DD does not have that.  Those big pocket guys are probably now giving to football as they likely now want access to Cig. This is going to be a very tough sell for DD especially if he misses the tourney this year because right now bb is second fiddle.

Look at what they just paid the football assistants. All the money is going to go to football now and if DD misses the tourney he will probably even get less than last year.

I don't know. Are we saying somebody like Pat Kelsey is some highly charismatic entertainer?

I am guessing the wallets for bbal at UL open alot easier than they do at IU right now.  UL is clearly a basketball school and we have become a football school now.

seems like he'd best get to coaching to the max potential of what he's got now then

I don't think he even close

Pretty much the only way the can win is if Wilkerson and Tyler make a bunch of threes . And 75% of our shoots yesterday were threes. The good big ten teams are going to be able to defend our one dimensional offense easily.

I think we have to be careful to not expect Cignetti or May results.  I was never to hot on Enright, or the lack of a big man.  About the only guys I was high on were Wilkerson, Conerway, and Bailey.  The rest of them were just....meh for me.  Could use a better PG and big man.  I wonder if DD was holding two schollies back for Goode and Leal, or boosters weren't willing to shell out that NIL $$$ for a new coach.

A lot of big donors want to see some wins first. Still have good money but not at the top atm.

The mega donors that flushed money down the toilet to prop the fraud Woodson are probably mostly out at this point, as well.

where did you hear that?

@hoosiers94 the other site, and other sources, are all saying the donors want to see success first before dumping a bunch of money into a new coach.

The Woodson donors is speculation on my part. They were grifted to prop up their buddy, I'm guessing they aren't throwing that money at DDV now.
