@hoosiers94 the other site, and other sources, are all saying the donors want to see success first before dumping a bunch of money into a new coach.

The Woodson donors is speculation on my part. They were grifted to prop up their buddy, I'm guessing they aren't throwing that money at DDV now.

I know 3 that give a considerable amount. Likley not on the top of the totem pole but nonetheless they aren't giving to basketball because of:

1. woody debacle

2. didn't like the DD hire.

2 of these 3 over the last 3 years have given in excess of 1m.  The other sounds like 500k.
so again not likely on top of the totem pole but decent amounts.

they said if DD won and won big they would reconsider   But for now their money is elsewhere , one said all goes to football

the others didn't exactly say where it all went but some went out of the school

I used to donate to the athletic department in kind for 25 years , I would say to the tune of 60-70k per year , I'm done with that   Woody broke my back ... that and I sold all my businesses a year ago Smile

@hoosiers94 I mean, it makes sense. I can't blame any big time donors for not wanting to contribute to basketball after the past 30 years and especially after the Buckner grift the previous 4.

Unfortunately, that puts the program in a precarious position as it needs more money to get things rolling if we want an immediate/quick high-level turnaround.

That is going to be pretty tough without money I think. When you have to pay over a million to get a guy like Reed Bailey you will need to pay triple that to get a high level guy going forward.

It is hard to blame them the hire was meh especially  after the Woodson fiasco. People say there is no way we could have gotten a big name but the question is were we willing to pay what it takes to get a big name? If IU was not willing to pay 6 to 8  million a year no you are not going to get a big name you are going to get guys like Archie and DD instead. The fact of the matter is schools like BYU are going to have massive amounts of NIL and we are not going too.DD will really needs to overachieve to win because we will not be able to match these programs money wise.

my point all along. Pay whomever 9m annually and get them here.  And I mean "the man".
I said on the Hoosier years ago pre tom Allen. We needed to call Saban up and ask what he needed to come to IU and pay him, commit to the improvements in facilities etc.  I was laughed at.  Now maybe because Saban wasn't leaving Alabama. Valid statement... but the worst he could say to us is NO.  We don't even bother to ask these guys.  Grumbling around in the rumor mill sending covert messages via agents etc. it's half hearted.  Get it from the horses mouth.  I use Scott Drew as an example , because I know him and I've spoken to him on multiple occasions over the years about IU.  He would've and would still come but it would have to be a great offer.  And I even think he'd hire his brother as an assistant... Grand Canyon isn't doing too bad ... to have someone like that on staff.  But that's fine it doesn't have to be him. I don't care it's just an example.  And I know for a fact IU has never contacted him

Per Wojnarowski we offered Stevens $10M a year in 2021.  He said no.  It's not that easy.  Coaches just don't leave anymore.  You don't need any more evidence than UK and ULs recent coaching searches.

Stevens was a GM in the NBA when IU offered him, not a college coach.

@iugradman There aren't a lot of high-level options that are even remotely realistic, though. If it was only about money then UK would have landed whoever they wanted last time. They had to resort to Pope. UofL missed out on guys as well. Both of those schools have boat loads of money, don't care about the rules and have been infinitely more successful than IU the past 30 years.

What exactly do you think IU has to offer that they don't?

Do you offer somebody like Otzelberger 30 million a year? You think the school is going to allow that? I don't.

@hoosiers94 That doesn't answer the question. Why exactly is IU going to land a big name established coach and UK and UofL could not?

@hoosiers94 the answer is they won't. There's nothing we can offer superior to those schools.

One of the top coaches in the country grew up in Greene County and literally graduated from IU. Is there no way he would be interested? Louisville and UK didn’t have alums who were elite head coaches somewhere else.
