@justanotherfan I could definitely see May not wanting to accept a job that wasn't open... and the lame duck coach being an IU alumn making it more heavy of a decision. But I'm pretty confident that the family concerns were real. And I would be surprised if the job was actually open, that firing Woodson would have been much of any negative, for May. Woodson was well before May's time at Bloomington. And RMK, and some of his player alumni had noted "cold" relationships with Davis and his staff (which May was a part of too)...and didn't really take too kindly to May, and others, working for Davis, so quickly after the RMK firing. I doubt May had much of any loyalty to IU alums, specifically to Woodson...
0% trueIt has been my understanding that if Woodson had voluntarily stepped down as coach, Dusty would have taken the job. Dolson had offered Woodson a nice payoff if he agreed, but he said no. Dusty was not going to take the job if he was fired. He didn't want to be a reason why another IU alumnus got fired. I heard this during Woodson's third season and before Dusty took the Michigan job. It had nothing to do with where his family lives, etc. It was about showing respect to another alumnus.
This is correct. He was not coming no matter what. He knew his worth and that he would land a great job without the pressure circus. He was patient. He would not be.I firmly believe Dusty would be at Indiana if Dolson would've been allowed to do his job.
Me waiting for more portal buzz.

But Dusty May didn't sign them so they must all be DII level....
There's still appx 1800 uncommitted players in the portal with a day left to enter. Plus players from euro clubs. ...
Sorry for the sarc. Playing around. I am hoping each time I come back here to check there might be another good signing. Patience grasshopper, I'll tell myself.

You're fine...
Here's something that may help ease that jones ..
Besides getting Estrella, Dusty has missed on 5 primary targets in this years portal. There was an assistant complaining recently they're getting zero traction with the players they're targeting. No one decent is going to sign up with the chance they may be sitting on the bench staring at Dusty's fivehead for a year championship or not..
MSU, is in the same boat, they need bigs and no one is interested, they're on option 4 or 5 currently. We stole their top 2.
Coaches don't seem to have the gravity they once had.
As of late afternoon April 20, Louisiana State does not have a player on its basketball roster.
You’re telling me IU is the only place where an alum wouldn’t want to be head coach because of the spotlight and family pressure? Wasn’t an issue for Painter or Roy Williams.

it sounds too much like a wuss of an excuse I just don't believe it's true for a second.

I don't buy that for a second. He doesn't strike me as being "afraid" like that. He's got a lot more moxy than that ... sounds way too convenient of an excuse
🤣 🤣 🤣

The reasons Dusty May wouldn't take the job keep rolling in and changing over time. This one sounds plausible. Thx. Much more so than 'toxic fan base - worried for his family' excuse. lol.
Good to know Dolson at least was interested in Coach May.
Yep, worried about hurting another alumni makes much more sense than hurting family.😂
That's not even close to what I said. 🙄Yep, worried about hurting another alumni makes much more sense than hurting family.😂
My comment was that he was worried about our fan base. Come on...
Whereas not choosing to be the catalyst to accept the job BEFORE a firing? Sure, lot of coaches might say 'contact me when you have an opening. And I'll talk.'

I don't think Michigan's fanbase is any less toxic. There is judgement anywhere.
But you see, apparently at Michigan he can coach there without living near there. Because if he coached at Indiana the crowd with pitchforks and torches can just march up the hill since we are close by. Or something.I don't think Michigan's fanbase is any less toxic. There is judgement anywhere.
