Only thing shown so far is those predicting, and trumpeting repeatedly, that the off-season would be a failure due to lack of commitment, that DeVries won't be able to close the deal, etc. , were FOS....
exactly.. not much proven so far .. other than we likely had more nil money than we thought
And while I was high on Carr and also said I saw signs Coach can recruit, I wondered how anybody could afford a full team at today's prices. So, yes, more NIL then I thought. Didn't know if we could do it. Also it is still maybe... We will see if we get useful players for the remaining spots.

so an initial top 35 ranking is where you'd like to be ultimately?
I was going to respond but my eyes just got stuck backwards after the major eye roll so is hard to type.
Sometime posts on concerns, with many positive posts in between isn't anything that lumps me in with several of you that always shout negatives as if from a completely different planet.Only thing shown so far is those predicting, and trumpeting repeatedly, that the off-season would be a failure due to lack of commitment, that DeVries won't be able to close the deal, etc. , were FOS. ......

You can count me in as pleased with our NIL being higher than I expected. If that's one of the main points.
UK seems to have plenty of NIL - where are they at this point? The coaching staff still has to convince kids and close the deal - money is a huge part, but a coach like Pope isnt getting it done -
@ge-off To be fair... there are still a lot of NBA level guys that haven't committed to their new schools yet. IU's portal haul is impressive, and it'll be near the top when it all shakes out. But I'll be surprised if it stays number 1.
Anybody happen to know the forecast for contact between IU and portal candidates this weekend?
Where is IU fishin with their big fat worms?
@bigmike I do think that is the plan. Lindsay, PAM and even Mustaf can be primary ball handlers for short periods to spell Burton. I don't expect a true backup point guard to be added with one of the final three spots.
@hoosiers94 Just for general reference...the Evan Miya roster projection model that is being referenced puts a big emphasis on continuity. His model keeps that emphasis on continuity until there are a dozen or so games played. That's the reason for the gap between IU being in the mid 30s versus the the mid-teens.
I also think his model is VERY low on Markus Burton but that's a personal opinion.
Go for a big fish.
Hope they hold a spot for Momciliovic. After the NBA combine if he returns to college his shooting from either forward spot would fit Devries style. Sisley has to step it up and probably will but Mom is proven. Having both would be a good thing. Can college reps like say Carr attend the combine?
Step it up for Mikka Muurinen. Seems like UNC is leading but IU offered.
@middawg I don't expect Indiana to grab any more headline type players. IU is going to round out the roster and fill all 13 scholarships. If it were up to me (thank goodness, it is not): I'd grab another capable shooter, a big wing that can defend at a decent level and give you minutes at 3/4, a true backup post player.
I would not be surprised if one or two of those additions are international prospects. Adam Olsen of South Alabama was linked earlier with Indiana, reportedly had a $1.5 million offer from Florida State but he has not signed anywhere. He's capable of playing the 4 and is a REALLY good shooter so maybe IU comes back to him?
One thing to note: true proven depth is nearly impossible to get right now. As expensive as starters are right now, it is incredibly tough to get and retain depth pieces that you have confidence in. Look around at rosters of most schools and you'll see that VERY few programs have proven depth. You have to quickly develop guys like Trent Sisley, Prince Alexander-Moody, Vaughn Karvala and Trevor Manhertz and get positive impacts from a couple of them.
@sig I don't want to burst your bubble but Milan Momcilovic is not happening. If he returns to college, Florida is the heavy favorite to land him. I don't believe any of the three remaining spots will be "big fish". I could be wrong but I think they'll end up being complementary pieces that fill specific roles and add depth.
I would be surprised if IU brings in another "big fish" simply bc I dont think any remaining top players nor the current crop we have wants to be a bench player - I would look for another big that has the ability to play 10-12 minutes a game and possibly another PF, 6'8 bruiser than can play the same mpg to spell what we have. I read on twitter the Rabjohns is reporting IU is confident in their incoming class to be able to fill some back up roles.
That said, not getting another big would be a mistake.

And this is the most pertinent point. Is our class better than last year..: yes it is. But that wasnt going to be hard to do. In order for us to compete with Michigan, UCONN etc we need a couple of NBA studs. We don't have any yet. If they could land 2 that would be awesome... maybe they will. But I have a feeling our wad has been mostly spent. So is it a step in the right direction sure but it's not where we want to ultimately be. And that's what's double edged to me about this class.
ETA until we hear that Sisley, the 3 Frosh, and the TBD Big are dominating 5 on 5 Summer open gym against the presumed portal starters?
