It’s a great looking roster so far, but what should temper everyone’s expectations more than anything else, is that at the end of the day, they still have to be coached by DeVries. Now, if this team finishes in the top five of the conference and makes it out of the first weekend of the tournament, I’ll eat my words and admit I misjudged him. I genuinely hope that’s how it all shakes out, but I have no confidence of that. DeVries gave me no reason this past season to have any confidence at all.
@bigmike More talented yes, but more importantly it appears more put together as well.
@openwheel Ultimately the pre-season rankings mean little as you have to perform on the court. I can recall a few Indiana basketball teams rated high pre-season and then perform dismally once they played games.
Last football season I don't think Curt Cignetti lost much sleep over the pre-season rank of his football team.

we get it
WE GET IT ALREADY
DAMN, Debbie
If men were any more stupid, we would have breed for the extinction of women. Proof yet again that WE are the best thing they have going for them.
Interesting interpretation, but you're missing the point: IF he's a good P5 coach, as some believe, there's no reason IU shouldn't be competitive at a high level. It's not complicated. The doom and gloomers here saying hang top 15 next season or it will be disappointing, clearly think DeVries is one hell of a coach
Hmm. The "doom and gloomers" who never liked the hire just sat through an 18-14 season, which did nothing to quell doubts. The doom and gloomers
The roster construction seems to be going well, so DD has every opportunity to make us look like fools.
@hoosiers94 I just saw one of the “ way too early” top 25 rankings that has IU at #15.
cbs didn't have us in their top 25 ... but that was 2 days ago. Ridiculously early to predict especially with rosters only half full

exactly.. not much proven so far .. other than we likely had more nil money than we thought
Need another big guy. Then we can start talking about whether the roster is better or not.
Every Big Ten team in the top half had 3 or 4 quality 6'8" and over guys.
IU has had an amazing week, but let's keep working on those remaining needs and see if this ends up being quite a turnaround.
I wish they had Sam Alexis back for 1 more year.
Will be interesting to see the direction IU takes. Could they surprise with a high profile player? Might they take on an international? Will another player with a couple years of eligibility be added or will a senior level player be added? Could Indiana be considering adding multiple bigger players? Plenty of directions the staff could take.Need another big guy. Then we can start talking about whether the roster is better or not.

So, without another big, this roster isnt better than last years? I agree, need depth at the 4/5, but this roster, as is, is much better then last season.Need another big guy. Then we can start talking about whether the roster is better or not.

Best part - all have 2 years left, so next yr the focus can be on retaining our own guys - also, with the quick work, now DD can be selective on who fills the last spots - doesn't have to take what's left, can actually watch for late portal entrants and or solid big to add.@bigmike More talented yes, but more importantly it appears more put together as well.
One theory has been put to rest - DD cannot recruit at a high enough level to win big - has a top 20 frosh group and #1 portal group. Kind of proves that with a full staff and some time, DD can bring in guys. Now, we see if ha can coach them up, which I think he can.
The Hoosier Huddle Podcast: Breaking Down Indiana Basketball's Early Transfer Portal Haul is worth a look. Sammy and TJ provide their views and analysis of IU portal recruits.
TJ mentioned Bryce Lindsay played 8 mpg at PG for Villanova last year. Perhaps the Indiana plan is to use Lindsay and Alexander-Moody to cover the 8 to 10 minutes per game Burton doesn't play PG.
It will be interesting to see what direction IU takes to finishing up the roster as then we'll have more of a full understanding of the plan.
Only thing shown so far is those predicting, and trumpeting repeatedly, that the off-season would be a failure due to lack of commitment, that DeVries won't be able to close the deal, etc. , were FOS....

And while I was high on Carr and also said I saw signs Coach can recruit, I wondered how anybody could afford a full team at today's prices. So, yes, more NIL then I thought. Didn't know if we could do it. Also it is still maybe... We will see if we get useful players for the remaining spots.
