I wonder who the sixth man would be. Probably a guard. I don't see both Sherrill and Yig both playing 30 minutes a game in DD's offense.
just thinking out loud here:
sherrell played just 58% of available minutes last year but that's because alabama played at the 5th fastest tempo...they're a run and gun offense.
yigitoglu played 72% of minutes in an offense that was 112th in tempo...fast but not alabama.
iu and devries played at a much slower pace (244th last year) which is slower than his avg of 219th but also not that far off.
seems like both playing together will have more to do with if sherrell guard the 4 more than anything else. my guess is both around 26-30 mins and then play by themselves as opposed to how iu used bailey and alexis as strictly swapping them 1 for 1 but who knows! very excited to find out.
Rob Wright back to BYU. Perhaps Mark Pope scared him out of Lexington.Sherrell is a Hoosier...it's a matter of "when" it is publicly announced and not if. I don't like telling people to calm down but y'all, don't freak out about Sherrell. Does he have the skills to play the 4? Yes. Will he also play some of the 5? I think so.
Someone mentioned Rob Wright...he's heading back to BYU and withdrawing from the portal. Tyran Stokes was mentioned and it seems like Kansas is the pick for him.
Eric Reibe is off the board to USC but IU was not an option after picking up Samet Yigitoglu (who was actually better in every statistical way than Reibe was).
Once Sherrell is publicly announced, IU will have four spots left. Jake Hall is a rumored priority to add shooting. He is a coveted player and has a long list of suitors. I think Rowan Brumbaugh could still be an option as well. They will be adding a backup PG (I think Del Jones is the guy to know there). They will then have two spots left and I would guess at least one of those spots goes to a backup 4/5...international players might be the chosen route there. Two names I've at least seen rumored: Leonardo Okeke (would have two years left, 7-footer from Italy) and Saliou Niang (2nd round pick of the Cavaliers but still has eligibility...more of a versatile wing/4 that I am attempting to manifest into reality).
@kkott I’m on the side of iu didn’t tell anyone what the budget really is. Carr is great at keeping things tight lipped it seems.
@iureactionary go look at Michigan and Illinois pace. You are onto something. DD will be doing the high efficiency thing.
The slow tempo problem was a combination of factors, one of which stayed out of shape all season and graduated.
I thought I saw on X that coach Clarks nephew was on a visit? he would be the backup pg right?
@auburnhoosier As of right now (which is pointless because the roster is not set yet), the lineup would be:
-Burton/Harris/Mustaf/Sherrell (once publicly committed)/Yigitoglu
I think the plan is to get a starting caliber 2-guard and then Darren Harris and Jaeden Mustaf are battling for a starting spot with the other one coming off the bench.

One thing I did recently read esl
leewhere about Durwood surprised me....assume it's correct but I didn't double-check. A poster on another site said that while DeVries was at Drake no team of his ranked in the top 100 of D1 teams in the % of 3 pointers taken. I think when he was hired here he wanted to emphasize that he was not another Woodson when it came to 3 pointers, thus the make-up of his roster. His roster at WVU was not heavily dependent on 3 pt shooting, and taking the Turk this year shows he has some flexibility with his approach. On the other hand, the posters info may have been wrong.....
One difference between this offseason and last: DD doesn't have a son on the roster who he thinks can carry a team. That said, I can't blame a father for thinking his overrated son isn't overrated.
@ge-off Budd Clark visiting IU would be news to me. If IU could have Clark coming off the bench, that would be fantastic. He does not shoot it well but Clark is a good passer and a dawg on defense.
I understand your analysis but Yigi is highly foul prone. There's a possibility Sherrill could spend more time playing alone than DeVries would like. For comparison, last year the IU foul leader, Conor Enright committed 95 fouls in 957 minutes. Playing 26 minutes, Yigi had 16 more fouls (He led SMU in fouls with 111.)I wonder who the sixth man would be. Probably a guard. I don't see both Sherrill and Yig both playing 30 minutes a game in DD's offense.

If I were the staff construction expert, I'd be sure to have a player on the bench that can offer some help to possibly play a couple minutes for either Yigi or Sherrill if needed.
I don't have the answers but it's fun talking about all this stuff.
@mushroomgod I wouldn’t get too hung up on that. Top 100ish is still good. Efficiency is more important. That’s why Illinois, Michigan and UConn were so good. Michigan defense was built to stop the most efficient teams for instance. They literally stopped all paint scoring and offensive rebounds. This looks to be the way DD and Carr are going. Scoring in the paint and stopping opponents from scoring in that area.

two years ago at wvu, without his son for most of the year, they were 344th in tempo, by far his slowest pace as a head coach.
so, it's actually the opposite of whatever you're insinuating.
it's also not a problem to play slow! people were fawning over the 3rd slowest tempo coach in mccollum at iowa (363rd). illinois was 289th. purdue, uconn and houston were 324th, 328th and 354th, respectively. there are different ways to win basketball games.

100% needs to cut down on the fouls and, i could easily be wrong, but i don't think they go into next year without another big on the roster.
@iureactionary that’s one reason their bigs survive a full game. Shorten possession. Expend your energy on defense not running laps. Woodsons teams couldn’t hit the most efficient shots. Free throws and 3 point shots instead of long 2’s. That was his teams problems. Will be interesting how this team does in those areas.
