George Lettice has been all over the place...one morning the Hoosiers are cooking and he's posting a GIF about IU landing a "dawg" from a high major program. The next, IU is cooked.
@openwheel Pretty sure there are no "multi-year deals" at least none that the players can be held to. They aren't signing a contract like the NBA. One of the complaints Barkely had was that these kids just hop from team to team every year looking for more money.
-Markus Burton (Notre Dame): it's a battle between IU and Houston. Burton visits the Houston Cougars this weekend. Burton has been, to my knowledge, IU's top target at point guard. I don't really know who else they are after that would be considered primarily a point guard. Rowan Brumbaugh (Tulane) could play point so maybe he's the backup option.
-Indiana is a good spot with J.P. Estrella (Tennessee). He's not a perfect player but I really like his motor and upside and I'd be excited if IU landed him.
-The Hoosiers are making a run at top wing transfer Juke Harris (Wake Forest). He's a fantastic player and the NBA Draft is an option for him. If he does come back to college, I'd frankly be surprised if he left the North Carolina area but new assistant Thomas Carr has a connection with him and IU is giving it a go.
-It does like South Alabama shooter Adam Olsen is a potential commit soon. I don't see the need to have Nick Dorn and Adam Olsen both on the roster so maybe Dorn did not like the NIL offer from IU...or, the staff sees those two in a different light than I do (certainly possible!).
@dbmhoosier I’ll choose to not put a lot of faith in the nobody who doesn’t know “ scrapes” from “scraps”.
Others are saying similar things. Sounds like we're getting out bid for the impact players. We either don't want to pay their asking price or we don't have it.
we're not getting outbid. he's talking about markus burton visiting houston. iu and houston are the two teams with burton right now and its neck and neck.
@ams66 Actually, there are with rev share. It's why Washington QB Demond Williams "stayed" at Washington. From what I have read, they used a Big Ten boilerplate contract that was multiple years and hard to get out of.
Edit: I may have been wrong on the years, but the reason he stayed beacuse it was an enforceable contract.
@thehoosierhuddle Good to know, it would be nice to get back to where "commit" really meant something close to the definition of the word.
I wonder if the contracts can have performance incentives.

Nothing he said is really going out on a limb. It sounds like we have 12-14 million to spend and the top guys will cost 4 million each. Just do the math.
From a basketball standpoint there is zero reason for Burton to pick IU over Houston. And DeVries has not shown he can moneyball a team to success so $12-$14 million NIL won’t be enough to build a contending roster.
You should get in touch with him and make sure he knows that. From a basketball standpoint there is zero reason for Burton to pick IU over Houston. And DeVries has not shown he can moneyball a team to success so $12-$14 million NIL won’t be enough to build a contending roster.
Per Alec Lasley of On3...IU had a Zoom call with George Mason big man Riley Allenspach.

Allenspach had a BPM of 5.0 and averaged 13.7 and 6.1 for the Patriots and was 2nd team All-A10 this season. I would think he'd be a somewhat budget-friendly backup big man if IU ended up with him (and Zoom calls do not mean commitments so who knows). One thing we can say for certain, this means the IU staff is working with and meeting with players there have been ZERO public links with.

I see no legit reason why Olsen should be considered as an option, backup or not. This is pathetic.

He could pick IU it comes down to the only two selling points DD has imo.
1. Can we outbid Houston? An outbid can work with kids looking for coin
2. Sometimes guys do want to come home and play in their home state.
To me those are the two selling points in IU's favor but I have no idea if it will be enough. Sampson can point to all of his recent success.
@arioznahoosier4554 He doesn’t know the budget and you don’t either. This is what - the 5th or 6th post from you telling us how we are about to fail in the portal? We get your pov. Maybe we will fail - but I’m more optimistic.
@tjinman1987 Estrella would be a great add with his size and skills. He had to share time with older guys Okpara and Carey. Okpara averaged 27 mins. He was an elite rim protector and shot blocker as a senior, so it is no shame to play fewer mins than him. And Carey was more like a center as well at 270 lbs. There were only so many minutes to go around. And as you indicated previously, he was very productive in his minutes.
