Great quote from Marvin Bell, the first Poet Laureate of the State of Iowa. His advice could be used in a seminar given to NCAA athletic directors: "How to Beat the Portal."
A gentleman by the name of George Lettice has an X account in which he posts gossip, predictions and various tidbits of information on IU sports. Back during the days of the "Woodson era", George seemed to have some fairly good ties with the happenings of the Hoosier basketball team. I have no idea of the quality of connections George may have with DeVries' staff or if he has any.
For what it's worth following are his "Official 26/27 IUBB team portal predictions!":
C: Eric Reibe, 7' international dude
F: Miikka Muurinen, Sam Orme
Sf: Jalen Haralson

Pg: Brett Decker, Connor Enright 2
As stated, the players listed are merely Lettice's predictions. I'll hang tight and for curiosity purposes check in a couple weeks to see how accurately George scored.
@bigmike That'd be a very expensive haul... Guard play, and shooting, with that haul would be a question mark. Would need Dorn to stay (and be more consistent), and probably would need Moody to be impactful right away. Also would worry about physicality. Quite a lot of length, and improved athleticism though. Definitely would have NBA levels of talent with Muurinen and Haralson, if not Reibe as well.
@bigmike I can fairly confidently say that George is going to be nowhere close. Miika Muurinen would be a real shocker. He's reportedly entering the NBA Draft. Eric Reibe is a possibility if he entered but there has been no indication he'll be leaving UConn. The one that I am absolutely 100% sure is incorrect is Decker at point guard. Brett Decker is not a point guard. He's an excellent shooter and basically nothing else. Traffic cone on defense and he does not handle or pass it anywhere near well enough to even be a backup point. We'll see!
A new name to know...Markus Burton, point guard from Notre Dame. He only played ten games this season before being sidelined with an injury and the Irish fell apart without him. He's a really good player and would be IU's best point guard since Yogi (JHS could argue but I'd take Burton as a college player). Things are falling apart in South Bend and there is expected to be a mass exodus with Burton and Haralson headlining the departures. Indiana is rumored to be a contender for Burton.
The list is rather insane. I wouldn't attempt to defend the list as it's not mine.@bigmike That'd be a very expensive haul... Guard play, and shooting, with that haul would be a question mark. On April 1st he hinted that "the best player from Akron' will be playing in Bloomington. Some think it was an April Fool's joke to the effect that Gabe Cupps was transferring back.....others that he was referring to 6-3 Michael Cooper of Wright St, who played with Singleton in HS in Evansville. Others think he was referring to a 7 1 center from Dayton U.
What would you guys think of Cooper. as a 5-7 transfer get. His #s have improved each year and were pretty good this past year. He would have 1 year left.
By the way, I was in Akron a couple of years ago and took a peek at Wright State's campus.... its ass ugly.
In other rumors, Trilly says we are involved with Markus Burton, and Freddie Dillione from PSU. The latter name scared me, but if you look at his overall #s they were pretty darn good this year, except he remains a 30% (or so) 3 point shooter. He & Burton can both score and shoot FTs, but are both 30% or so 3 point shooters.
Personally, I'd be ok with Burton, Dillione & Cooper if we could match them with a stud 5 and a Stud wing. One problem--I think all 3 have 1 year left.
If George hits 3 on that list he's constructed, the man has exceeded expectations. Not sure what he meant by "Connor Enright 2" as perhaps that player is a point guard. Yes, Decker is a shooting guard and over 34 games had only 37 assists.@bigmike I can fairly confidently say that George is going to be nowhere close. Miika Muurinen would be a real shocker. I guess Burton will have two years with a medical redshirt.

Right....I also visited the U of Dayton campus. Urban, but had some nice areas. Small.
The good news on Cooper is he would have 3 remaining years of eligibility. He just played his frosh season at Wright State. Cooper and Tre Singleton were high school teammates on that Jeffersonville State Championship team. I like Burton and his ability to get to the rim. Looks like Burton and Freddie Dilione have only a year of eligibility. If Burton had played one less game this season he'd have two years eligibility. Burton played 10 of NDs 31 games in 2025-26 which gets him over that 30% eligibility number.A gentleman by the name of George Lettice has an X account in which he posts gossip, predictions and various tidbits of information on IU sports. 33% on 3s, 48% on 2s, 85% on FTs career. The FT # is nice. Scores a lot. Not a big-time distributor and his asset/to ratio is only about 1.2 for his career. Gets some steals. How is he overall as an on ball defender (only 5 11)?
I'd rather have someone taller, and a better distributor, but beggars can't be choosers. There are issues with both he & Dillione but for some reason I think they'd be a good combination. Would need two snipers at the wings tho.

Well....in that case I really like those 3 together. Cooper had per 40M #s of 20.3 pts. 4.1 rebs, and 3,3 assists v 1.8 TOs...and shot nearly 36% on 3s and 80.5% on FTs. Probably the best FR in that league. As I recall, wasn't the main? about him out of HS his outside shooting? Just seems like an energetic, productive guy. I saw that one of the ratings sites had him down the list pretty far. Would love to get a couple home state overachievers in he and Orme.
I know some people don't care but I'm with you on the Indiana high school kids. I'd like to see a few more on the Hoosier team instead of seeing Painter and other schools take them. The good news on Cooper is he would have 3 remaining years of eligibility.
