@hoosiers94 Could be... I think he probably would make some things we're already going to be relatively solid at, better. But would not address some of my bigger concerns, with respect to us becoming competitive with FF level teams... which is length, physicality, and versatility defending and rebounding.
He'd make us better, for sure. And if he were the difference between a top 25 ish team, and a top 5 ish team, then he'd be worth that money. I'm just not sold he's the type of guy that'd push us forward that much.
He's actually kind of a similar player to what Tucker was. He's a more consistent shooter than Tucker was at IU. But really any other aspect of the game, I'd say Tucker was as good or better than he is.
Different player comp for me.
He was/is a 10% better version of Goode.
And some of that may have been exploiting a better opportunity playing on a better team and having better coaching.
We need a "banger", a "brute". Doesn't have to be 7' tall. Doesn't have to be a scorer. He can be 6'8" as long as he can/will raise hell in the paint.
I'm no NBA expert, but as a prospect, don't know there's that much difference between a second round draft pick and a solid rotational G-leaguer in his rookie season.
Both of whom profile as forwards that can shoot, minus defenders, and athletically comparable.
I would say this Mono guy has better proven college production than what Goode established, hence being 10% better than Goode.
I would guess Goode if he had a sixth college season upcoming might be a 1.5 million dollar guy optimistically for him, and Mono at 4 or 5 times that is crazy.
i watched him several times. I personally think he's quite a bit better than Goode. But that's me. Is he worth 6m no... but I still say he puts us up another rung
@hoosiers94 And maybe to your point... in an era where the money is silly anyways... an extra 2,3,4 million... sounds awful to even say it, but if that's the difference between a blah year, sliding in to the tournament without much buzz... and having that "Wat shot" type year, that completely changes the vibe in and around the program, he'd be well worth it. Not my money, but getting genuine positive vibes back around the bball program is worth a pretty penny, I'd have to think.
I just don't think he's the right type of dude to make us a top 5 level team.
No worries! We have Winkler!
taking a look at it from a whole team viewpoint ... if you believe he could get us from a 5-7 seed to a 1-2 seed.. and let's say we made it to the FF would you deem that money well spent ? That type of success would then open more doors next year etc. I think this NIL etc is going to get reined in here soon .. so that said overpaying him to get us back to relevance would make a lot of sense to me. Is he alone worth 6m. No but if his addition takes us to those types of results... I'm spending it.
I hope it does get reined in but who is going to do it?
The NCAA has been neutered by court ruling after court ruling.
Not exactly sure how I see who handles it but Nick Saban won't stop until it passes or he passes.
Just saw on X that IU got a commit from Caleb Holt? anyone have any info?
Dang, my hopes were up... Not seeing anything either. Shows Arizona commit in April.
Was this from one of those 'Locked on (Hoosiers) ...' of related sites? 🤣
