Thats where I'm at. If we're a top 4 seed and get upset in the 2nd round its not like he's getting fired nor should he. The key will be repeating that. Getting upset and then dropping back to the bubble in year 3 would be Woodson territory and cause for firing.

I still hate NIL and how you have to buy players year to year but I cannot change that it is what it will be from now on. I at least wish they could not transfer every single year on end but i doubt that ever changes. It will take big money to get the players and it appears we have big money. There is no reason we should not challenge for the top three our four in the big ten we got the horses. IF you dont make the sweet sixeteen oh well upsets happen but we should be able to get a top four seed and if we do probably even more money will flow.

With complete respect, 16 not high enough for me. We need to go 8 for me to be happy, final 4 is always my hope. Based on our history, I get the 16, which is way better than anything in recent history. Go Hoosiers!
@hoosiers94 making the sweet 16 the barometer for success is tough IMO. So much shit can happen. If they lose a tough game against the 3/4/5 seed I’m not gonna say failed season. They should be a top 6 seed though. That needs to be the floor. No excuse not to do that. Then he should be a top 6 seed for the next few years. Need to be consistent and ranked. Sweet 16s and further will come when you are always a top 6 seed. Mix in some 1-3 seeds and we can say we are back. Long way to go for that to happen but he’s gotta be a top 6 seed next year to start.
I will keep my expectations for IU the same as always:
single digit loses for final record -
top 4 conf
top 5 seed in tourney
ranked in top 15 at the ned of the season
This team right now should be able to meet those standards
Seems like we’ve had this thread before……but it does feel different. Experienced players from power 5 conferences (gee, where have I heard that mantra before) players have more than one of eligibility left and it seems like they are constructing the roster as if they have a plan in mind. Yes, once again, we win the off season!! Hopefully this time we translates into wins

No, thats silly. Upsets happen in the tournament to even the best of coaches. If you grade on that alone you have no business running a program.
Woodson's problem wasn't losing in the 2nd round in year 2, it was that was the high water mark and he followed that with 2 terrible seasons. Crean's problem wasn't just losing to Syracuse. It was following that up with 2 terrible seasons.
To be elite, we need consistently built teams that are 'expected' to go S16 or better, ie seeded that way. 1 upset in a tournament this year would mean nothing if we're right back with a top 4/5 seed the next year and the year after. Tournament runs will happen if you consistently build teams like that.

he doesn't have the equity built up to rationalize it like he is a coach with a resume and a history that proves it's just an aberration... so it's not good enough. In other words when out to prove oneself.. make sure that upset doesn't happen.
if we are an 11 seed ... no one will be happy. That's just squeaking in... that said if he makes a run ... it will negate that somewhat. But it will put more pressure on for the following year. Finishing 9th and limping into the tourney as an 11 seed isn't acceptable.. and it isn't to you either. You've said as much on both sites you're on
and yes being elite means year in and year out you are a threat ... we haven't been that since the days of RMK Even his last years we were still a threat because of the mental gymnastics he made other teams do.. all based on his past performances...
Oh I will be pissed and want him fired if we are a bubble team. I won’t be pissed if we are a 5 seed and lose to a 4 seed playing a good game though. Will just expect him to keep us at that level going forward.
