@iunorth They had no size. Biggets guy was maybe 6'7". Skill was OK, played hard. Probably a MVC school without a big I would say.

@kkott I have heard Sokolov has been on campus for a couple weeks now. He was listed on the roster we were given. Maybe I mixed him up with someone else on the court, but thought he was out there, but did not take his shooting shirt off.

Couple notes on the three point shooting.
1. The frosh came across as absolute gunners from deep. I noticed this in the pregame, and confirmed in game.
2. The game was played with a 24 sec shot clock so that contributed to less post play and less dribble drives and more outside shots as players were many times taking the first open look.
3. High percentage of the shots were drive and kick and open looks off of offensive rebounds.
4. Off the top of my head, I don't recall any that I thought were "bad" shots. A few were late shot clock, get the ball up on the rim, shots.
5. Sherrill was very smooth on his attempts.
6. Quick high lease on Darren Harris's shot confirmed.
7. Manhertz was the first frosh off the bench, might have been on of the first players off the bench with Sisley.
Manhertz also looks like he could get bodied by the toothpick you use after eating a juicy steak. He's out there to shoot, not to set screens.
8. During the course of the game, and especially the first half, it didn't feel like there was an overabundance of threes being shot.

Nice eyes by the staff, great get! Sounds like it was from a long term Coach Kenny Johnson relationship.
I loved an interview at one of the All Star games he was in where the pregame hype guy asked him how many buckets he would get. Moody said 'I don't know. We're going to win the game'. And now that he likes playing defense on the other teams' best player. Awesome!
I like the sound of some slightly less heralded transfer portal guys - such as Bryce Lindsay. Fans of his former school describe him playing really strong early and then post-season, but all said disappeared in the Big East season. Sounded promising to me though, and now Huddle saying he showed skills as not just a shooter but can play guard when required. (Edit: NVM .... 1 for 6 from 3? Against weak comp? ... Hoping that's an anomaly. Just 1 more and it's at least reasonable. )
Did not see the game, but based on highlights these would be my thoughts:
--Harris has a better handle than I expected, and is also quicker than expected;
--I've never seen Burton play. He is not as quick/explosive as I expected he would be, but you can tell he's a gamer. He looks like a sane Conerway. Two gamers this year v. one (Enright) last year;
--After Manhertz was recruited, there was talk of him red-shirting. I'm very surprised at his upside. Beautiful shot and he can handle the ball. Looked to me that he had at least 1 1/2" on Sisley and 2" on Karvala. I think he's at least 6'9";
--Lindsay looks capable & willing. 1 for 6 on 3s but we know he can shoot high 30s%;
--The Turk looks limited. The best thing about him is he will stay down low and out of Sherrill's way.;
--Based on the little I saw Sherrill reminds me of Thomas Bryant;
--No giant leap forward for Sisley. I'm starting to think I overrated his upside;
--Overall, the team lacks explosiveness. There's no Victor out there. Burton & Sherrill are skilled 2nd/3rd ABT level guys. I really like the freshmen. Manhertz is tall and can handle & shoot, Karvala is smooth, Moody is ultra competitive.
Recent years when we get a vaunted shooter, they suddenly can't throw it in the ocean. 🤣 Lamar Wilkerson excepted.40? FORTY ???? FOR TA? Wow

I see we won by 30 but wasn't that a high school team we played which to me would make it very hard to give an honest review of how good the IU team may be. I mean yeah not shocked they had nobody over 6'7

Bummer. Interviews he talked about a ton of hours in the gym this offseason and he sounded real happy with his own progress. And teammates have said good things. @mushroomgod Sisley was fine. He showed good instincts and can be a weapon off the bench. He may not be the All-Big Ten player people hoped for, but he looked more comfortable last night.
Samet was disappointing to be honest. He looked unathletic and slow. His fundamentals and toughness weren't there last night. Maybe that changes, but he's not a freshman.
Burton looked slow, but maybe that is him getting back to full speed after his injury.
Overall, this team is more talented and deeper, but there were some concerns coming out of last night (even if it's just July).

Ya it's July but none of the observations given suppress my optimism. Get the Turk in shape and maybe he'll not be a foul magnet. Although AS will lower Yigi's exposure with his D activity. Also G defense will be more potent than last season. Sisley and Manhertz getting a lot of minutes will be big. Waiting for more competitions.
Hoping our GM with even more time to help evaluate talent with the staff and predict valuations can help us do even better in the coming years.
I felt Yigitoglu while good (And looked a bit soft and slow last year, so no surprise on that report) was still a bit of 'the best we can do right now' while other just as high end or higher bigs were snapped up around us. Although we did well, mainly since we got Sherrell.
@thehoosierhuddle Burton has never been an end to end speedster. Shifty, very quick in bursts in the half court, elite level finisher, even at his size. But he isn't going to be a plus defender, and he isn't going to push the pace all that much. I've watched him play since middle school. He's one of the most un guardable guards, at the high school level, I've ever seen. But I have concerns about him leading a successful high major team at the point guard position. Hope he proves those concerns wrong, for IU.

That's pretty much my take on things.
I think to really be a 'surprise' team Samet has to be better, especially more athletic, than he's going to turn out to be. I think he was overrated in the portal.
That said, his game is very compatible with that of Sherrill. I think that was his main attraction ti IU.
I'd like to hear from posters who've watched Burton a lot in the past, as to whether he looked noticeably slower last night. Never having watched him, my impression was that he was not all that quick, which surprised me.
I do like the versatility of Lindsay, Harris, Moody, and hoping for more of the same from Mustaf.
You could tell from the highlights that the other team was awful. So.....a 15 point lead after 3 quarters, even horsing around with the lineup as we did, was somewhat concerning. It goes to what I saw as a lack of explosiveness, overall.
I do see upside, but I wonder if CDD is the guy to maximize it. One thought I've had since last night is.......what would the Wisconsin coach be able to do with this roster?
