Just couldn't quite get over the hump.

https://twitter.com/i/status/2028248524651929729

Oh s---, did DD inherit "The Hump"?

What a horrible quote.

Participation trophies for everyone!!  Don't forget the asst coaches!!

I like Doorknob as his nickname, but I'll offer an alternative:  Durwood, in memory of the late, great, Durwood Kirby.

Durwood DeVries.....has a nice ring to it.

@gros-louis It looked like a matchup zone, to me.  There are so many different ways to run matchup zones, its hard to tell exactly what they were supposed to be doing.  But the switching man to man, very obviously stopped, after about 5 minutes in to the game.  We basically had to go to whatever we did, because of the mismatches that were happening, and then the foul trouble Tucker and the bigs were in.  The defense after the first 5 minutes or so wasn't "awful".  They hit some tough 3s, and we weren't able to rebound effectively out of it, the rest of the game.

I hate to pile on Bailey... but he just has to figure out how to be tougher.  And Sisley must be playing absolutely awful in practices, for CDD to not even attempt to play him either alongside Alexis or Bailey, or as the 5... because the game yesterday needed something different down there, and he never even sniffed the court.

@hoosiers94 he’s not a good, B10 level center.  I’d still like to see him playing alongside one.  No reason not to try to play him alongside Alexis, at this point…at some point.  But he has largely been a bust, yes.

Good idea.  That way he can suck at two positions.

Took a look at a few other boards. Plenty of people seem to think that he is just going to massively upgrade the talent and all will be well next year. Delusions or reality time will tell. Talent level may improve but im.guessing only  if we have the coin to overpay.

I follow two........Hoosier Sports Nation & B Town Banners.  For the most part, the HSNers are optimists, the BTBers the realists.  It's really strange to see.

@mushroomgod He already "sucks" as a B10 level 5.  Why not try him more out on the perimeter, with Alexis playing the 5?  I guess like the Sisley questions, maybe the staff has seen what it looks like in practices, and it doesn't look good?  But he's shown perimeter abilities, and maybe his effectiveness on things like rebounding and finishing would improve if he's largely doing them on wings instead of bigs?

HSN yes looked at it a few times and it appears you better have rose colored glasses to join the conversation.

@cavanagh I've been told otherwise...Dusty May had serious reservations about coaching at IU. It's irrelevant, he'll be at Michigan for as long as he wants that job now.

What YOU heard is accurate.  What the Irish Munchkin says is bogus, again.  He thinks because he lives in GC that he knows something about Dusty, but he doesn't.  At all.

@arioznahoosier4554 Correct and that is where the hiring of Ryan Carr comes in. The hope is he can put a valuation on players that is accurate and gives IU a chance to build a good roster. IU shouldn't have an issue with funds, but you can't survive by over paying under performers like Bailey

Well they are going to need to nail it they basically have to put a brand new roster together again. Dorn is not an NBA player like some facebook guys claimed. He had two good games and that was it. Sisley does not play. So we literally return nothing to speak of going to need a whole new starting five again most likely.

The only things I've liked about Dorn is he doesn't force many shots, and he seems like a good guy.  He can't play D, drive/handle, or rebound.  And he doesn't appear to be a knockdown shooter even on open 3s, although that's a little up in the air.  For the 4 games from 1/20 to 1/31, he was 20/43 on 3s, 46.5%.  For the 7 games since, he's 7/39, 18%.  My feeling based on his history before and at IU is that he would shoot about 37% on unforced 3s.

I think I like Miles a little better because he can play D and rebound.  He seems to be more of a competitor.  But he's pretty bad on O.  For the MSU game he played 19 minutes and had 6 rebounds....and 0 points.

So do you keep 1 or 2 of these guys around or take a flyer on 2 other players with the same NIL value?  What about Drake, Harris, and the two foreigners?  That's 6 + Sisley makes 7.  That way you could focus on getting 6 transfers.  And 2-3 will probably leave on their own.  That's enough change for change's sake probably.

I agree that if I was CDD I would have tried it....nothing to lose......but I don't think it would have been successful.  Are you thinking mainly for D?  Because Baily cannot rebound, period.  0 in 8 minutes yesterday.  Meanwhile, Miles had 6 in 19 minutes (0 points).  Their career rebounding #s per minutes played are about equal.  Neither can (Miles) or will (Bailey) shoot from the outside.  Bailey's points at Davidson were almost all within 6 feet of the basket.  Bailey's the better passer but why wouldn't you just sag off him?

No idea on Drake or Harris if they are any good nor not we have never seen them play. I do not think either one was one of higher ranked transfers. We do have to assume probably 2-4 players also leave because that is just the nature of the portal now. Miles is ok at a backup but he is not a starter imo.

We are too low on talent to worry about any player deciding to stay or go.

But, conversely, I hope most return, to help DeVries develop culture and understanding of his systems.

And like the looks of Sisley. And Ristic a bit. Some upside there.

@gthomas He mentioned not being able to get over the hump in his postgame presser.

This is the conundrum... we have these guys (miles, Dorn) on our roster that can do 1 thing well and 10 things either horribly or just meh and we have 2 guys (Harris, Drake ) we pretty much don't know anything about and this is somewhat part of our returning base.  Wonderful.  This poorly constructed roster has somewhat tainted the outlook of what these 4 could possibly offer next year imo.  Sisley is a keeper I believe he will develop.  Ristic to me seems to have an elusive tempo.. can tell he's from Europe I think he could also develop.  And we have the 3 freshmen incoming who could immediately contribute or possibly give nothing at all.. never know with freshmen

so unless we land 5-6 studs in the offseason.. we will be looking at the same scenario again in 12 months.

I don't see him being capable of doing it. Even with a brinks truck full of money.  He hasn't shown the ability to develop talent and send them to the next level nor win and make runs into the tournament.... if I'm a high end recruit or portal guy .. there's someone else who will pay me and I can walk into a much better situation... hard pass on IU.  That's where we sit ... everyone has money now.., and there's not enough talent to go around.  This means it requires a coach more than ever and we don't have one

@hoosiers94 Maybe one compensating factor is that he brought in seniors for the most part. They are already developed, for the most part. Would we be better able to judge his coaching in regards to player development once he's had some younger players come up through his system?
