@ams66 Not having more size and athleticism was a failure, I just seriously doubt it was a mistake. He went after guys with more size and athleticism. He didn’t get them, for whatever reason.
Failures are actually more ominous, to me. As I think he’s gonna struggle, again, to get good, impactful bigs. Like Woodsons struggles with shooting and scoring wings. I worry CDD might struggle landing the type of bigs, and length and athleticism IU will need to get to competing for B10 titles and FFs.
But I think even guessing that CDD “didn’t know” he needed them…is a bad take. And to circle back to some of my other posts…despite not having those things, he underachieved with the roster he did build.
The administration has been filled with morons who couldn’t hire a good coach if their lives depended on it and nickel and dimed the program for years. That is why it sucks.
There has been unfathomable incompetence at this university for decades.
@iunorth If that's the case then I guess we should fire him after this week? What hope is there if this is the best he is and he's not going to be able to learn from this year's experience and improve next year? I suppose the one answer to this is that he is about the best Indiana can get right now, having let the program slide into the state it is. But somehow, the Football program, the worst progam in college history, was atrractive to Cig.
Nope- zero excuses next season. He now has a GM, has seen the conf and talent required. Next yr expectation from me will be no worse than a 7 seed and single digit losses for the season- meaning 21-9 or better.
league will be down a little compared to this yr and he will have more than ample time for the portal
I expected at least that this year. Next year 3-5 seed and S16.
Alright folks… do we really think DeVries, a college basketball coach, who just finished up a year at a B12 school, didn’t think about, or understand, the B10 challenge more than any of us did? Good lord. Of course he did.
He essentially admitted he didn't fully understand it in a post game presser during that little win streak. I started a thread about it with the presser video included.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

Yep. Basically what you're saying is none of these excuses make any sense. Because the writing is on the wall. For every excuse there's a counter which is then countered with another excuse. Plain and simple the dude is in over his head. Everyone keeps saying you can't compare him to Cig. Why not ... even just a little ... maybe he doesn't win a Natty in year 2 but maybe we get to the dance in year 1 and S16 in year 2 but wait the portal is thin , but wait we don't have enough money for NIL, but wait we have injuries to guys we have no idea how they can play but that's the reason , but wait he's got a great system. It's all malarkey. He can't manage the program the way it's supposed to be done in order to be successful... so we hire Carr, that'll do it. So what do we do when that doesn't work? Cause that will be an excuse ...we let Carr build the roster and he's never done it before on the college level so he needs a decade to acclimate ... give me a break.
just curious- who do you want here, that would reasonably come and would do all the things you expect? I would be all on board. I just do not have an answer on who the next coach should be in the future?@iunorth If that's the case then I guess we should fire him after this week? @dbmhoosier haha -that’s the guy I think as well. Got laughed off the board when he had a tough first yr last yr

LOL. Flavor of the month. How about the guy at Miami (Ohio)?

so that's easy... because I can think of 20-30 coaches I think would do a better job than DD and turn out better results in year one. That said there's likely only 5-6 I think would have a chance to get us to a higher level and what is and most of us want us to return to. And this is without sitting down and doing any sort of analysis of the coaching landscape. Also if it were me I would not ever be afraid to get involved with prying someone away from somewhere you'd think we'd never be able to acquire a coach from.. that's the difference... IU is afraid to go after the golden goose candidates

Find out what it takes. Everyone is buyable...
that's just the start of the list.
I'll wait for your and others criticisms...
As I wrote, it’s going to take a lot of money to turn IU basketball around. Hiring a proven coach is the only way to go because the administration is incapable of finding a good mid major coach.
But that amount of money would be better spent on football.
@hoosiers94 why would I criticize? I’m a huge Schertz fan- kid from our school played for him. Got to meet him. Has a great story as well

there are some who will pick apart anyone I list just to prove their point to their own ego.
