@snarlcakes your grasping at straws, my friend. 2.2 is miles away from hot. The consumer confidence numbers are awful, lowest numbers in 12+ years. Income growth non existent.

How about 3%?  4%?  I want to get you on record before Q3/4 come out.

I don't put any weight in confidence numbers.  They're pretty much just noise now.  The inflation expectation numbers are laughable. Consumer spending increased 3.8% during the quarter.   They can be pissed off or scared, but they're still spending money.

5 year low in wage growth and negative real wage growth. Maybe you can better understand why consumer sentiment is so poor.

@twenty Consumer sentiment is lower in 26 than it was in 2022.  It was also lower in 25 than it was in 22. By the way real wages fell 1.7% in 22 and rose 1.1% in 25. If you want to base your opinion on the economy on data from consumers who think wages decreasing by 1.7% is better than wages growing by 1.1%, cool.  I don't because that would be really stupid.  Also, you didn't answer my question.  Is 3% booming?  4%?   Also, whatever link you posted broke the thread.

It's not 2025. It's 2026 and real wages are negative. The economy is as shitty as this forum

@snarlcakes consumer sentiment is low because the job market is shit. While there was high inflation in 22, the job market was averaging 400k new jobs a month. We just dumped a turd of a jobs number, something that's been consistently weak for the last 2 years. That's why the difference in consumer sentiment.

Consumer credit usage is 2nd highest ever, behind December of '25. Delinquency is high and climbing. Those are not good signs. Delinquency is the highest since 2011.

The unemployment rate is 4.2% and labor participation rate ticked higher last month.  It's a good job market and extremely easy to get a job.

@snarlcakes you can keep lying to yourself, but nobody is biting. The job market is incredibly weak, in a low fire, low hire scenario, and the quit rate is very low... Many just hanging on to what they have, and have no leverage to move into new positions.

There's a reason that Trump's numbers on the economy are worse than even Biden managed.

From KPMG

Right now, if you have a job, you are likely to keep it; if you do not have a job, it is very challenging to find a new one. Low hiring and low layoffs with the unemployment rate at 4.1% have resulted in an odd labor market.

The quits rate ticked lower to 1.9% in August from 2% on a three-month moving average basis. That voluntary turnover is near historic lows, though it reached 1.2% in late 2009. That is an extremely low bar; the level of quits is still closer to recession levels than what one would expect at full employment. The Federal Reserve can only manage the economy in aggregate; overall unemployment held near a historic low in August.

The data is the data.  Since Trump has been in office wages are up about a 1% annually, GDP around 2.5%, employment around 4%, and inflation around 3%.  The only lie is you saying it's terrible.   Trump broke your brain.

It makes sense.  It took rate hikes off the table, S&P 500 earning are 3x what they are normal, and the economy is growing.   When you have the largest companies in the world investing 100s of billions on AI and its buildout, it's difficult to be bearish.
