@hoosiers94 DD will always be compared to Dusty May because of the circumstances. Yes, pick your battles. That’s a key to life. So, we will see what happens. You’re correct people are just done and I don’t really blame them.

He's not the answer.

If the question is, "Who's IU's latest misfire (mishire)?" I think he is.

We paid buyouts to Archie, Tom Allen, Woodson, we are not about to do it for a first year coach, lol. Or even second year.

Nothing to do with self righteousness. LOL Any athletic department who does another buyout, this time immediately, should fire themselves first.

The ball started rolling downhill during Crean's last few years, then continued under Archie, then hit rock f'ing bottom under the dynamic duo of Bigfoot and Quinn. Indiana NEEDED to hire either (A) A stone-cold assassin like Cig or (B) Someone who at least gives fans hope for the future ... and is endearing to fans. May is both A and B, and McCollum is B (and may become an A as well). DeVries is "None of the above" (imo).

In his post game, he mentioned that they did focus more on paint touches in the 2nd half.  But that it’s hard for shooters like some of ours to pass up the good, open looks the offense was creating.  I suspect he was implying he didn’t really want them passing them up.  They were running the offense as it is designed.  And open 3s, in the rhythm of our offense, by guys like Wilkerson and DeVries…are literally the best shots we can get.

He also acknowledged the rebounding needs to get better.  Hearing him say that felt good, but them not doing it for the most part today, doesnt feel good.

I was actually fairly impressed they kept running their stuff.  They’re not likely going to beat good B10 teams by dumping it inside.  Running their open offense, creating good 3 point looks, and making a decent clip of them will allow them to compete against really anyone.  They shouldn’t go away from that style and focus against a team like Chicago State, just because they have a cold stretch.

The game was never in doubt.  Who would ever be mad about Wilkerson and DeVries, Dorn maybe, taking an open 3?

Ken Pom ratings through games of Saturday, December 20 place IU at #27. The Hoosiers at this time are not the 27th best team in the country.

Bad start for CDD.  Outlook for him isn’t good.

He’s not getting fired after one year.  No school fires their coach after year unless they do something off the court.  This isn’t an IU specific thing.

It’s not even worth firing him now— even at IU bball doesn’t make or lose much money, so paying an $18M buyout plus whatever buyout the new coach might have wouldn’t be a wise ROI.

At this point the only hope is CDD fixes his roster next year and figures it out.  I’m pretty doubtful he will, but it’s not impossible.  And I wouldn’t give him any more resource allocation for his roster until he proves he knows what he’s doing.  IUBB gets plenty of resources now such that making the tourney shouldn’t be hard.

And if he doesn’t figure it out, we’ll hire another coach in 2028 or 2029.  Personally, I find the best approach is to tune out — I’ve pretty much done that since 2018.  But, to each their own.

yes we did. But that outlook is closed minded to the future just like keeping Woodson one year too long. Haven't they learned about keeping a coach one year too long.  Allen stayed one year too long.

his buyout is 8m after March 1 not 18 big difference

we paid WVU 6.15m to buy him out

Unless I'm missing something in his contract, $8M is CDD's buyout if he decides to leave.

If IU fires him, he gets 80% of his remaining contract.

Its all over the net. But here is an early one by the IDS.

If DeVries would be terminated without cause, Indiana would pay 80% of the remaining base salary and supplemental income.

https://www.idsnews.com/article/2025/04/indiana-mens-basketball-darian-devries-contract-bloomington

The way I calculate that it would be 80% of 24.2 million if fired at the end of this season, so $19 million. Going down about 3.6 mil per year. Does have offset language so would likely be less in the end.

Not huge, compared to football deals these days, but significant.

Just to be clear, while having a conversation is valid, I highly doubt that moving on after year one in realistic.

It barely becomes realistic after year two. And even then only if we shit the bed.

Coach will get us going.

I hope.

@thehoosierhuddle You are providing some reality to the situation. IU fans are going to need to hang in there with DD. No way he's gone after a year. Perhaps he will surprise us all and turn this team around.
