too bad
that was an eminently winnable game
and we didn't get it done
They didn't quit but didn't do what they needed to win. Back to reality....
Tough loss. IU battled though and had a chance late. A split on this trip is just fine. IU has two home games coming up that are very winnabale. The Hoosiers will fly back east tomorrow.
Losing to USC in what became a close game isn’t a bad loss.
But how we lost this game, it was a bad loss. Very loose and unconnected defense. Really, really bad rebounding effort. Really dumb decision making, especially with silly fouls. And two of our guys that we rely on to make shots, missed a lot of open shots.
Bailey was the worst version of himself for most of this game. This is where not having Harris hurts, I think. When Bailey, or Alexis, are having bad nights, we still have to play them.
Conerway is my least favorite of our core players.
Gotta beat both Wisky and Oregon…or making the dance will be unlikely.

Reality is that they split out west and come home to two winnable games and have 2 Quad One wins in their pocket. This was a gettable game though. Frustrating way to lose. Had a handful of good shots rim out, a few bounces go their way. Wilkerson needed help tonight and really didnt get it.
Thanks for staying up late with us. That was an awful broadcast too.
Bad loss. If DeVries and Dorn are anything but terrible we win this.
@dbmhoosier If we find ourselves on the wrong side of the bubble, this game, along with Minnesota and Nebraska will certainly come back to haunt us. Very winnable game if we had played even average basketball versus what we had been playing the last 3 games. Our defense was poor, our rebounding intensity was poor, we made bad decisions on both ends of the court, Bailey was the worst version of himself, and 2 of our main scorers were ice cold... And we still had it to one possession late in the game. I guess that can be seen as both a positive and/or a negative.
Beat Wisconsin and we're back on track. Lose to Wisconsin, and the outlook is pretty bleak. Biggest, and most consequential game of the year. Its our first actual "must win" of the season, in my opinion.
I hadn't seen USC almost at all. Midway thru the first half we were down 3-4 and I starting saying we should smoke this team. But the fact that we weren't was telling me it was an off night.
DeVries has become the forward version of Enright. Gets some boards, plays some physical dee. Can't score.
We're going down, in the stretch run, unless DeVries finds a way to play big ten basketball. I'm not worried about Dorn. Bad night, but he's not a head case about shooting like DeVries is right now.
,
@iunorth ….what is the word on Harris….is he suppose to play this year?
@openwheel ….TD drives me crazy….there are times he doesn’t even look at the basket. I noticed one time last night he got the ball around the elbow and if he turned around he could’ve taken an open shot.
Yeah, especially late when we had closed it up and made it a game. I thought the same... Frustrating. Got excited he had the ball in good position and would turn and shoot and instead turned away to pass. That's why I said the head case thing, something mental going on after his outside shots quit falling.

He's been overrated from the start by many on this board. For his career at Drake, he shot 36% from 3s and 51% on 2s. His OE rating was between 113-116...very good but not elite. At IU he's shooting 33% on 3s and 52% on 2s. It's always concerned me that our coach's son shoot so many ill-advised 3s.
@mushroomgod He's also been our best rebounder, and one of our best passers, and is being asked to defend legit post players, and doing a pretty good overall job of it. He's a VERY good overall B10 basketball player. He just isn't able to score like he could at the lower levels.
@thenickeldimer Haven't heard anything more than what's been reported on here. Getting close to the point where you consider redshirting him (if he's on board with that).
